Please help... i was infected by a virus that chgd IExplorer. I have however followed the instructions on your other pages and believe it has gone as there doesn't appear to be any OBVIOUS sign of it.... however you know how these pesky viruses can be.

That being said there is still one obvious side affect the whole infection has left me with. That that my windows seems to have lost it's skin, there is no...
* Green Start Button
* Blue background to windows
and
* There are only 3 tabs now in display options, where as before there were 5 or 6.
*The text and overall windows config looks different.

Please take a look at my HJT log and feedback on any flaws and/or area that may be causing problems.

Can you change your desktop wallpaper.. What about your windows xp style? The theme..?

Do the following;

Launch notepad, and copy everything in the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fix4me.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4"!

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run]
"intel32.exe"=-

Locate fix4me.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, hit YES.

REBOOT!!

Run a new scan with HiJackThis, and post the fresh log here. Also provide me an answer to the questions at the top of my reply.

Hi again! We'll get your XP style options back later on, let's get your machine fixed up first. Let's continue.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

1) Please download the KillBox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run KillBox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oleadm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\intel32.exe

6) Return to KillBox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Reboot back to normal mode, run a new scan with HiJackThis and post the fresh log here.

Please run a scan with; Panda Activescan

Save the log it produces, and be sure to use the Auto-clean option (or something similar)!

Post back with the results..

Ok, looking better all the time. ;)

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix. Be sure to ask any questions before proceeding the fix.

First, update Ewido to it's latest definitions but don't run it yet.

"intel32.exe"=-

Locate fix4me.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, hit YES.

Run HiJackThis and if the following line is present, check it for removal;

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intel32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\intel32.exe

Close any other open windows and/or open browsers, making sure only HJT is running.
Make sure that the above mentioned object is checked, then hit on "Fix Checked".

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files - option.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and delete if present;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\intel32.exe

It must be exactly named intel32.exe , if it's not there, just go to the next step.

Run a Full Scan in Ewido Security Suite.

Save the log it produces.

Run CleanUp! making sure to reboot.

Boot up into normal mode, run a new scan with HiJackThis and post the fresh log here along with the log from Ewido.

Hi again!

Download the Luna theme at
http://users.pandora...patchy/luna.zip

Unzip it (right click the luna.zip and select extract all) and MOVE the luna.msstyles which is present in that folder you unzipped to, to this folder: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna

Don't move it to anywhere else other than that folder!

REBOOT!!

Let me know what problems you are having now - you should be able to change your XP style. ;)
