Click Start-> Run-> Type in Services.msc and Click OK!

Scroll that list and locate this entry

Network Security Service

Right Click that entry and Select Properties-> Click Stop-> Go up and change the Startup Type to Disabled!

Please Download these utilities but dont run them until I ask you to!

Download Pocket KillBox from here:
http://www.bleepingc...les/killbox.php
There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.

CWShredder
http://cwshredder.ne.../CWShredder.exe

Double Click CWShredder.exe to run it>>Click Check Check For Update
Close it out once updated,We will run it in Safe Mode!

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

ABout Buster
http://www.besttechi...?showtopic=1488

Follow the Instructions inside the link to Update it,We will run it it Safe Mode!

CleanUp!
http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe

C:\WINDOWS\winfu32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\beqwb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfclz.dll

As you paste each in,place a tick by these selections when Available!

"Delete on Reboot"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!

Click "Yes" to Confirm

Click "No" to Reboot

Once at the last file

Click "Yes" to Confirm

Click "Yes" to Reboot

If you get a PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process! message then just restart manually.

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders, this must be done after restarting in Safe Mode!!
Here is a link to help with that:
http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=62

Once in Safe Mode-> Run CWShredder

Sully,

I rebooted my PC and the homepage seems to have stuck. (THANKS!) The only thing that I have noticed is that things seem somewhat slower. For example, when I open the control panel it takes about 30 seconds to populate the icons inside the window. It used to be much quicker. Do you think that I should do any additional scans to see if everything is cleaned up?

Please advise,

Mike :-) (Monsters Inc.)

PS - When all this is over I want to send you some cookies or something to say thanks.

That seems to be a common response after a nasty CWS Infection!

Here is what I have done in the past to speed things up!

Disable System Restore
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Download the Registry Cleaner
http://majorgeeks.co..._Pro_d4256.html

Click on "Registry Cleaner"-> Click "Aggresive"-> Click Start!

Remove whatever it finds!

Now Clicl Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Disk Defragmenter!

Defrag that System!

Now Clean out all uneeded Temp Files

Delete files/folder from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp; but not temp itself!)

C:\Temp

C:\Windows\Temp

C:\Windows\System32\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp

Empty your "Recycle Bin"

Open Internet Explorer,
Select Tools,
Select Internet Options
Select Delete Cookies and Delete Files(Check the box for Delete all offline content)

Go to Start,
Select All Programs
Select Accessories
Select System Tools
Select and Run Disk Cleanup(Make sure that all boxes are checked for cleaning!!)

Go back into Msconfig and Disable whatever you dont need at Startup!

I only have my Antivirus checked in Msconfig!

Restart so all the changes take effect!

Renable System Restore

See if this doesnt Make a difference!

Sully,

I tried the spee-up tips you offered and they seemed to work well. One more lingering thing that I have going on revolves around my Norton 2004 Antivirus. This my be out of your area but I thought I'd try you anyway. I can't seem to turn on "Auto-Protect" or Email scanning feature. I can check the boxes to turn them on but they don't stick. Let me know if you have any ideas. Could this be a leftover problem from my recent infection? Please advise. Thanks
