I have a Dell A940 all in one printer. It shows that the black ink cartridge is full, but it's not printing. I have cleaned out the jets, done all the cleaning I can and still nothing. The cartridge was bought from a cheaper vendor, not Dell. Could that be the problem? I tried everythng suggested in the printer book!

Most ink monitors do not actually measure ink, but start estimate how much ink remains from the time a cartridge is installed -- this is why you almost always have ink in the cartridge when it says it is empty

note: running a printer without ink in the cartridge can burn out the print head, since the ink acts as a coolant when it is exasperated....

but the cartridge is full and when printing a picture with black in it, it's light brown. Also, it won't print any black letters.

Hi...just a little suggestion.

After you click on print, go to properties, and then select BEST and OK.

That will use the MOST ink and will give you the BEST copy.

If that doesn't help, it sounds like your ink cartridge might really not be full afterall.
Or like the Gerry said; dried up or plugged up.....

Did you take it out and use a Q-tip dipped in alcohol and run it over the place
where the ink comes out?

brown is not partial black....brown is a mixsture of yellow and green....your color cartridge is printing the part of the black that is not pure black


your letters will print from black only, but pictures are made up of many colors---even black is not PURE black

I have my printer quality set to normal, setting it to anything else hasn't helped. I've cleaned the connections with water and alcohol, and I've cleaned the jets like the manual said to. I've even used a different cartridge and get the same results. Please, any more ideas?

are you sure it's a genuine DELL ink cartridge? try setting your print quality to "best" and see if that helps.

No, this is NOT a cartridge bought from Dell, it's a cheaper version from another company.

It is recommended that you only buy original accessories. Have you tried setting the quality to best yet? See if that helps.
