My desk top icons are corrupted and I cannot access any programs including system restore and regedit. I have downloaded the files from dougknox but windows will not open them. The only solution is manually edit the registry.

Ad-aware SE plus is responsible for this but the problem being is I can't remove it because I cannot open the program. It's a common problem but their forums can't help me.

I've found how to system restore and regedit through the back door.

How do I edit my registry using regedit and the contents of Asaeth post? I don't know how to edit the registry in these circumstances?
