Hi, I'm having problems with my computer suddenly. Today I was suddenly bombarded with pop ups and new programs installing themselves onto my computer and then finally my wallpaper changed to a blue screen with "Security Error - A fatal error in IE has occured. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c"

I went through the post you're suppossed to read before posting and followed all the instructions and downloaded the different programs and it kept finding problems and cleaning them yet there are still problems. The blue screen wallpaper hasn't gone.

Here's my HJT log:

Hi maz4pj and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt

Reboot and check your desktop then:

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

Download and unzip http://metallica.gee...m/MADEbyOSC.zip
Run the file by doubleclicking metallica.bat
and post the log.
Do not reboot until someone has looked at your log and given you the next step.
If you have to reboot repeat this part when you are back online.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Sorry about that. I did go to that site before and i was being asked to download and install SP2 which i know shouldnt be installed while you have malware on your comp, and I just assumed SP1 was already installed. But i found the SP1 download anyway and installed it.

Here is the new HJT log. by the way when the log was being created there was a message about having a large no. of hijacked domains and its prob better to remove the host files.

As for how my comp is running. Im not sure, it seems okay but like there is still something wrong. while i was doing the active scan ewido popped up a couple times with warnings and so did AVG once. Also when i startup windows about 3 different "windows installers" start up for some reason. i just cancel them but i dont know why thats happening.

thanks again for all the help!

You have multiple infections, so this will take a few tries to get everything, please don't get discouraged :tazz:

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as Fixred.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00.

thanks again for all the help. I followed the instrcutions as you said. I did uninstall getright and Limewire last time.

There was one problem though. While i was following the instruction at 13 where i was to run an ad-aware scan i tried to run it, and it started off fine, but then it got to the point of deep scanning registry and the program just froze. i tried a couple times and it kept doing that. i wasnt sure what to do, so i proceeded to the next step anyway. hope this is ok. no items had shown up in the part of the scan that did go through.

Now when i started the comp the windows installer things popped up again. other than that im not noticing anything.

Here is my smitfiles log:

Hi,

Can you go to start Search and tell me what the path is for this file (ie.. c:\window\system32....ect)
Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

csnyn.exe

Open HiJackthis and do a scan.

Place a check next to the following:

O16 - DPF: {64311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab

Click FIX CHECKED

Reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log

Thanks,

:tazz:

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\FAVORITES\Cheap Viagra.url

Please download the Killbox.

Please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\YSBactivex.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\yaemu.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmpmy.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\csnyn.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..
  • Let the system reboot.
Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\CAS]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SURFSIDEKICK3]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\APRPS]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\APP MANAGEMENT\ARPCACHE\SAVENOW]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{F3C41C1D-22F1-4692-8A7A-88DE70A2E9E2}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\extensions\CmdMapping\{BF69DF00-2734-477F-8257-27CD04F88779}]

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\]
"hclean32.exe"=-
"yaemu.exe"=-
"dmpmy.exe"=-

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Reboot and post a fresh Silentrunners log please.

Thanks,

Excal

Didn't get them.....Try this.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\System32\yaemu.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmuyv.exe

after its donw rebooting please make another silent runners log and post it.
