Hi There,

I was surfing the web and got a frozen internet explorer page. I quickly killed the task to prevent silent installs. However, I was apparently too slow and the next time I opened up IE, I got an unwanted toolbar that I cannot remove by doing the following:

Spybot S&D
Adaware SE (Latest edition updated)
CWShredder
Hijackthis removing the wareout.exe
---------
When I restart the PC, i get an IE error when logging in.
---------
The tool bar looks like the following:

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  • Uninstallation
    We need to uninstall the following programs:
  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  • Please locate if they exist
    • Accoona
  • Click Uninstall
  • Confirm with OK
Please close all remaining windows, disconnect from the internet, open HijackThis then click SCAN. Please put a check on the following items listed below:

O2 - BHO: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hfkvl.dll
O2 - BHO: Accoona Search Assistant - {944864A5-3916-46E2-96A9-A2E84F3F1208} - C:\Program Files\Accoona\ASearchAssist.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hfkvl.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmaji.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmaji.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hgqhp.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hgqhp.exe

Make sure to double check the items you have selected, then click Fix Checked.

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\hfkvl.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Accoona <-- whole folder
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmaji.exe
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\hgqhp.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reboot back in NORMAL MODE.

To make sure it is perfectly clean let us have the final check.
  • Close all windows, open HijackThis then SCAN.
  • Post a NEW HijackThis Log.
  • Post the results from Silent Runners.
  • Please tell me how your system is working now.

This is a complex infection and needs a good fix. I am working on this now, I will post a reply as soon as I made it.

Please run Silent Runner again for comparison from the previous log.
