Just to confirm. Trojan Hunter was still on my computer and I ran it again and it deleted 3 items. Should I still do the list of things that you suggested above? or should I go back to the original list of things that you asked me to that included Panda (which i couldn't run) and kaplinsky (which made my computer go crazy)?

thanks for your help.

Because of the difficulty that you are experiencing getting these prograns to run properly, please run the last instructions I gave you. Hopefully, if we can strip away enough of the bad stuff, the scanners will run.

Regards,

Hello again,

I have followed the instructions that you gave me and please find my new HJT log below. Please note that whenever I run in Safe mode I get a pop up of Internet explorer has experienced a problem and needs to shut down when I click do not send error report the page refreshes and whatever I was in the middle of doing is lost and I have to start again (please note that I am not on the net when this pops up). I managed to run Process Explorer but had to do it with the Windows explorer pop up in the corner, however the programme did not list any q798281 in the hreads sections for Winlogon and Explorer.exe.

I used HJT to remove the O20 but of course there was one window open the Windows explorer error report (will this have stopped it from working?) but did check and delete the q798281 log as per your instructions.
I also used Killbox etc.

The new HJT log is as follows:

1. Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2. Copy the following items to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fiz1
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\in10b6s.dll
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\DAN JENNA\START MENU\SurfYa.com.lnk
C:\new.exe
C:\WINDOWS\satmat.ini
C:\WINDOWS\unstall.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\joystick networks
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MyWay
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FLEOK
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\DAN JENNA\APPLICATION DATA\Lycos
Dialer:dialer.asl
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\m67m.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\biini.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\polmx2.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\satmat.inf

3. Reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

4. Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

5. Select "Delete on Reboot".

6. Open the text file , and copy the file names to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

7. Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

8. Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

9. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

10. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Your log looks good. If you have no more malware-related problems that you are aware of, just give me the OK and we can start the final but essential cleanup procedures.

Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

2. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

3. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
  • Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
  • Left click on "System Restore Tab"
  • Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
  • Left click on "Apply"
TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
  • Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
  • Click on "Apply"
Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)

Trevuren
