Hey geeks (meant in a positive way ;) )

Like a few others I got the psguard malware last night....and I have been trying a lot of stuff. I got rid of most of it...the little icon on my taskbar telling me I had an infection...I got control back of my start page in explorer. All (at least that I know) I need is to restore my desktop from the adv...

I've tried a lot of stuff and different programs before I found you.

Welcome to GTG.

We're all geeks here LOL. :tazz:

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:
===================================================
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.makemesearch.com/?said=382
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://shdocsv.dll/asst.htm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard spyware remover] C:\Programmer\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe

===================================================

Delete these:

shdocsv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe
C:\Programmer\PSGuard\

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

OK, we are almost done here. Just a little more to remove. One of the registry entries may give you problems removing (SHUDDERLTD). Just continue on and post back on the status (whether you removed it or not).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ and delete MTC MTC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete SHUDDERLTD

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Uninstall ErrorGuard from Add/Remove panel if listed.

Delete these if found:

C:\PROGRAMMER\ErrorGuard
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\bend style plan audio\

That can't be right. We didn't do much in the last step.

OK, give me a new HijackThis log for review.

We are still looking into deleting that SHUDDERLTD entry. It's a stubborn one.

Just want to confirm on this. Did the slowdown happen on Post #3 or after you did the fixes in Post #4?

So it's still slow now? Was this before or after XP SP2 install?

I want you to get Firefox and install it. Run it and go to a website. See if it's just as slow or is it running normally.

The log here is clean. So let's see what's causing the slowdown.

You might also want to give this a try:

Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip and unzip it. Then double-click on WinsockFix.exe to run it. See if the internet is better now.

Hey again Greyknight17

After running winsockfix everything is back to normal.

It happened after the SP2 install and right after I deleted the last bunch of files, where I couldn't delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete SHUDDERLTD

Good to hear my log is clear WUHU:D Thx a million!! Wouldn't have had any clue what to do if I hadn't found you:) Great thing you are doing here

Last question: What about HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete SHUDDERLTD?? :tazz:

OK, is that SHUDDERLTD now deleted as discussed via our PM? Double check to make sure. If so:

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
