Hi

I have been following the other topics on this trojan but I can't seem to get rid of it. It keeps popping back up again.

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?.
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINDOWS\2_0_1browserhelper2.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll
C:\Program Files\Windows AdTools <- this folder

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working.

Thanks for the advice.

Is there anyway I can stop these things from getting onto my computer in the first place? I have Sygate Firewall and run Norton Antivirus. Can't understand how they sneak past.

Hi Admin

Followed your instructions to the letter.
I notice you are using sp2. When I installed it it seemed to slow my computer down hugely (opening files and internet browsing) so I de-installed it and therefore am running sp1 at the moment. Presumably sp2 gives extra security but is it possible to not experience system slow down or is that what is to be expected from it?

SP2 benchmarks the same or slightly faster than SP1 on most systems. (However it does increase the size of the Windows folder quite a bit). About 10% of systems will have issues installing SP2. Check your PC manufacturer's website to see if there's an update to be applied before SP2. Also, many spyware/malware programs can interfere with it's installation, so it's important to start with a clean system.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.

Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.

Thanks very much for your help.
The system itself seems to still be running alittle oddly. I frequently get large pings and desync on some servers and the PC itself does appear to still be running alittle slow.
What I might do is ghost back to a point just after installation and install the SP2. I believe the point is just after installing Norton Anti-virus software. Is it necessary to de-install it before SP2 goes in or will disabling it suffice?
