Hey Excal,

I'm having difficulty running the scannow command. I can't get to my start menu, all I have is a blue background with no task bar. I can get into task manager though.

I have a Windows XP re-installation CD handy. Its for a DELL though and I have a Toshiba.

You can get to run thru your task manager.

Go to file pull down menu and select new task (run...)

Hey Excal,

Well, The only thing to change this time was the screen color -- it went from blue to light green.

Any other tips??

Thanks for your time...

Hey Excal,

These did not work either.

You think I'm a lost cause??

Any other thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Sincerely,

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Please go to start>my computer then navigate to this file:

C:\Windows\wininet.dll

right click on it and rename it to wininet.old

go to your C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB883939$, rightclick on the wininet.dll present there, choose copy and paste it in your system32-folder.

*Note - It could be possible you will get an error saying the file already exists when you try to paste the good one in your system32-folder.
If it gives an error, just reboot

Reboot

Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Windows\wininet.old
C:\Windows\System32\oleadm.dll

please post and let me know the results.

Thanks,

:tazz:

You are a Genius Excal!!!

I'm back into my system!!!!

I'm downloading all the Window updates I can find for my system right now as well as all the anti-virus/spyware software that this sight recommends.

I will check back to see when you're online for your feedback and de-briefing.

I will thank you now, but look forward to posting to you when I catch you on-line.

Seems your IE is still hijacked.

Disable Microsoft AntiSpyware

Open up HiJackThis and do a scan. Check off the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicks...es.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1

Click FIXED CHECKED then reboot and post a fresh HiJackthis log

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read How I got Infected
