Remove the Widows Update Folders

When a Windows up date is downloaded they make a folder in C:\Winodws called something like $NTUinstallKB885836$ is it nessacery to keep these folders for can I delete them.

These are there if you need to unistall an update that might have cause a problem.

But if they have been there long anough I can get rid of them with no problems, right?
