I have replace a dead HD on my old computer. The new drive is a 40GB and the old one was 20GB. I have tried to install XP on the new (unformatted) HD but the upgrade XP CD I have will not recognize the original restore CD for the old OS (Win98). I also tried to use the restore CDs but they don't work now. The new drive is recognized in the BIOS....

I need some advise!

The system is a Compaq 5837 and the copy of XP is an Upgrade

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

You should have purchased a complete install cd as the upgrade cd won't recognize an OEM or Recovery installation..
