I have a feeling that there may still be something there. Humor me please.

1. . Please download the 30-day free trial of Kaspersky anti virus

. Install the program
. Run the definition update module.
. Scan your whole system and let the program remove anything it wants.
. When finished, REBOOT your system

2. Run HJT, click SCAN, produce a log and post it for review.

3. If you are satisfied with your system (Please tell me in your response if you are aware of any malware-related problems) and if my analysis of your log does not show any malware, we will proceed with the final but essential cleanup procedures.

Regards,

Trevuren

I also think that there is some malware on my system. Before installing Kaspersky I tried to uninstall mcaffee. There was a message that said all mcaffe products must be uninstalled before security center was even though all the mcaffe products are uninstalled. Also (unrelated), when i tried to uninstall some of the other programs I get an error message from wise uninstall that says "UNINSTALL.LOG file could not be found." Do you know what is happening? And, should I install Kaspersky even though Mcaffee is there?

This means that some programs were not installed properly. Windows looks for a history of what happened in the registry and in other places when you install a program. That is kept in a UNINSTALL.log. If it is gone, you have a mess to cleanup by hand.

Yes can install Kaspersky eventhough Mcafee is there. It is only for 1 run.

I ran the kaspersky scan and several objects were deleted. My system is still running more slowly than usual but I'm not getting any more popups. Here is my HJT log.

Your log looks good.

Your system is running slower because you are running 2 Antivirus programs, Trojan Hunter, Ewido, These all consume a great amount of resources.

1. If you don't intend to keep and pay for Trojan Hunter, you should uninstall it.

2. AVG7Free or pay for Kaspersky, your choice. You should not have 2 AV running on your system at the same time. UNINSTALL one please.

3. EWIDO can be updated even when the trial period is up. I would keep it.

When that is done, please post a HJT log for review and tell me how things are. If everything is OK, then we will procede with the final but essential cleanup procedures.

Regards,

Trevuren

I deleted kaspersky and trojan hunter and everything is running well. I cannot change the way I loogon and i get a message that says "client services for netware has disabled the welcome screen and fast user switching. to restore these features you must uninstall client services for netware." Ive tried searching for netware but i didnt find anything. I also tried finding netware in the add/remove programs list but it wasnt there. Also, can you tell me how to uninstall mcaffe because when i try to I get a message that says that all the other parts of mcaffe must be uninstalled even though they already have. Ive tried searching for mcaffe and deleting all the files in program files but that didnt work.

Here is my new HJT log:

I would prefer that you visit the McAfee site to see if they have a removal tool. I know Norton gives very detailed instructions on how to do it but I am not sure about Mcafee.

If they don't, I can disable it and remove most of the registry entries which should allow you to remove the folders/files from Windows Explorer.

We want to stop and disable an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'
  • Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  • Click the Extended tab.
  • Scroll down until you find the service.
    ===>McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager
  • Click once on the service to highlight it.
  • Click Stop
  • Right-Click on the service.
  • Click on 'Properties'
  • Select the 'General' tab
  • Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  • From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  • Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'
The service is now stopped and disabled.

BPlease print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\McUpdate.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MISAggregator] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\MCAFEE~1\MisAgg.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\McAgent.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [McRegWiz] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\McRegWiz.exe /autorun
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - Networks Associates Technology, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\PROGRAM FILES\McAfee.com<===Folder and all its content
C:\PROGRAM FILES\McAfee<===Folder and all its content

  • Exit Explorer

C We will now delete the service:
  • Open HJT
  • Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
  • Type mcupdmgr.exe in the space provided and click OK
  • The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept
  • REBOOT into Normal Mode.
D Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
