I have Peachtree Complete for Windows 2004 installed as a single user on one workstation. The data is being backed up to the file server. During payroll checking printing, the system locked up. User reboot the p.c. and is now UNABLE to reaccess the Peachtree program.

Error Message states that the serial number is in use by another user. How do I unlock the system. I have already reboot the file server and the local p.c.

From Peachtree's Knowledge Center:

  Question
I am receiving Serial Number in use or Another Peachtree user is using the same serial number when attempting to open my company. How can I correct this?

  Answer
Reboot your computer.

Go to Task Manager look for W32MKDE.EXE, click to highlight, End Task. If W32MKDE.EXE is not shown, close Task Manager.

Go to Start, Find or Search for conn*.* Be sure you are searching the DATAPATH for these files.

Select all connco and conndp files from your datapath and choose delete.

The .ini file has certain lines that will need to be edited.

Following is a list of the .ini files for current releases:

Peachtree First Accounting R2002 -- PFA90.INI
Peachtree First Accounting R2003 -- PFA100.INI
Peachtree First Accounting R2004 -- PFA110.INI
Peachtree Accounting R2002 -- PAW90.INI
Peachtree Accounting R2003 -- PAW100.INI
Peachtree Accounting R2004 -- PAW110.INI
Peachtree Complete Accounting R2002 -- PCW90.INI
Peachtree Complete Accounting R2003 -- PCW100.INI
Peachtree Complete Accounting R2004 -- PCW110.INI
Peachtree Premium Accounting R2004 -- PPA110.INI
Peachtree Premium Accounting-Accountant's Edition R2004 -- PPAA110.INI

To edit the file, select Start, Run and type in the .INI file name that corresponds with your product. For example, if you are on Peachtree Complete Accounting R2004 you would type in PCW110.INI. Click OK and the file will open in Notepad.

Scroll down to the [Options] section and look for the line ShowStartup=No, change this to read ShowStartup=Yes.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpen=[company name] where [company name] would be your last company opened company name. Delete the FULL company name after the equal sign.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpenShort=[company short name] where [company short name] would be your last company opened Folder Name. Delete the company folder name after the equal sign.

Open Peachtree and select one of the sample companies. After the sample company opens, select File, Open Company and open your company data.

Note: If you are using Peachtree Accounting Release 2004, please make sure that you have installed the SR-1 service release update which will minimize this error message in the future.

To verify the release of Peachtree installed, select "About Peachtree Accounting" from the Help menu in Peachtree. If you have an internet connection, you can select "Check for Updates" from the Services menu in Peachtree to check for the Release 2004 SR-1 online update. You can also request a copy of the Release 2004 SR-1 update on cd by contacting Peachtree at 1-800-247-3224.
