I have tried everything to remove this stuff.
So far nothing really bad has happened, but here are the problems

1: whenever I log in on my account, AOL Intant Messenger logs on the internet (I don't know if it is a problem or not)

2: I have PC-cillin and when I do the spyware scan, it locates SPTW_SITEBAR.A. I cannot delete it
The help on the PC-cillin site tells me stuff to delete, but I cannot find any
I think I deleted most stuff, but there is this shadow file somewhere

3:Spybot S+D locates the file ISearchTech.YSB, but cannot delete it, even on startup

4:Periodically I get a popup trying to get me to download WinFixer.

5:I have had messages from PC-Cillin which say I have things like ISTBAR and DyFuCA in a wierd folder I can't locate, C:/Recycler/
6:when I ran ewido, it deleted about 12 items that may have something to do with these problems

7:This all started with some "trojan" files downloaded into the computer on July 15 into my sister's temporary internet files, they include the files TROJ_AGENT.RS and TROJ_DLOADER.MG. My computer took the action of quarentine them and it did it successfully

8:Here are all the different files PC-cillin has detected since then (i don't know if they are still there)
ADW_ISTBAR.O ADW_SAHAGENT.P ADW_ISTBAR.AI SPYW_POWERSCAN.D
ADW_DYFUCA.EI SPYW_SITEBAR.A TROJ_ISTBAR.AI TROJ_ISTBAR.ZB

My computer is less than a year old, a dell, uses XP, and I have a DSL connection.

Here is my HijackThis Log:

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go.

I am UKBiker and will be helping you with this log.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 2 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 3 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

Hi there aaron

before i post the fix for you, i have some answers for your questions, and a couple of questions for you in return

1: whenever I log in on my account, AOL Intant Messenger logs on the internet (I don't know if it is a problem or not)

Its not a problem, but we can stop it happening if you would like. Tell me in your next post and i will include it in the fix

2: I have PC-cillin and when I do the spyware scan, it locates SPTW_SITEBAR.A. I cannot delete it
The help on the PC-cillin site tells me stuff to delete, but I cannot find any
I think I deleted most stuff, but there is this shadow file somewhere

Where does pccillin say this file is?, can you give me the filepath

3:Spybot S+D locates the file ISearchTech.YSB, but cannot delete it, even on startup

If you use AOl, that is a part of the AOL toolbar. Dont worry, its not an issue

4:Periodically I get a popup trying to get me to download WinFixer.

We will take care of that

5:I have had messages from PC-Cillin which say I have things like ISTBAR and DyFuCA in a wierd folder I can't locate, C:/Recycler/

That is your recycle bin. We will take care of that in the fix

6:when I ran ewido, it deleted about 12 items that may have something to do with these problems

Can you post both the Ewido and KAV logs that I asked for in my earlier post of 29 July.

A question for you now. Dell bundle an application called myway with their machines. We regard this as an optional removal due to the questionable nature of its actions. Do you want to get rid of it?

C:/Documents and Settings/Aaron/My Documents/webpage/home.html <<<Do you recognise this file?

As soon as i get your replies, i will post the fix for you.

1. sure, tell me how to stop AIM from coming up

2. After running some scans and deleting temp interenet files, i got rid of the SPTW_SITEBAR.A. not a problem anymore!

5. the messages have stopped, i think that i got rid of them. it still might be helpful to know how to delete similar items if they appear

6. I ran a new ewido scan and will post it below, as far as kaspersky, i wasn't sure what to do cause it said only stuff upto 1MB could be scanned, so i went to Trend Micro and will post that below also

-sure, tell me how to get rid of myway

-the C:/Documents and Settings/Aaron/My Documents/webpage/home.html is just a webpage i made as the default homepage, nothing is wrong with it

Hi aaronhm16

Ok then, here is the fix :tazz:

This fix will also stop AIM from loading at start up, you will have to start it manually when you wish to use it.

1- Ensure that AdAware, Spybot S&D, Ewido, PC Cillin and TrojanHunter have their Real Time protection and monitoring features disabled.

2- Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com...de_srchlft.html
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfAccuracy] C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy\SAcc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\PROGRA~1\AIM\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl
O16 - DPF: {084F552D-19EB-4668-9788-984CBC781A8F} (AsyncDownloader Class) - http://survey.otxres...m/Preloader.dll
O16 - DPF: {4C226336-4032-489F-9674-67E74225979B} - http://www.otxresear...ia/OTXMedia.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

3- Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4- Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

SurfAccuracy
My Way Search Assistant

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

5- Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy
C:\Program Files\MyWaySA

6- Now you have to clean out your temporary files:
  • Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Click "OK" to remove them.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.

Hi There aaronhm16 ;)

Great, juat a couple of Remnants to get rid of from the log and we are done. :tazz:

Reopen HJT and scan. Place a check mark against each of the following, making sure you get these entries and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll (file missing)

Close all open windows and browsers leaving only HijackThis running. Click on Fix Checked and then exit HijackThis.

Reboot, run another HJT scan and post the log here for me to check.

Hi there aaronhm16 :(

Congratulations , your log is clean :tazz: ;) :)

Just a general clean up now and we are done

Now you have to clean out your temporary files and flush your restore points:
  • Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Click "OK" to remove them.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
Flush System Restore.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

So now that your PC is clean, how do you keep it that way?

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer alternatives available. ConsiderFirefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
