Greetings all

I've been lurking for a while now and I have gathered a lot of usefull tips and tricks not to mention all the problems everyone here has helped me fix, I'd like to say thanks for everything....Thanks :tazz:

Now comes the time I need help with something I can't get any info on.

I recently installed a clean copy of xp on my moms computer (pentium 4) and it was working great (awesome) for about a month untill last week when it started to hang up on the xp splash screen, it hangs up for about 5 min.....very irritating!

I read you can disable the splash screen but I have a feeling it won't solve the prob. I'm guessing something is very wrong.

Once it finally boots up everything is completely fine????

I gone through the startup items (msconfig) and that's good.

Anti virus= up to date
spyware= up to date
adaware= up tp date

I intalled bootvis and still nothing.......still getting the 5 min xp splash screen???

Is there anyone here that could help me with this prob??

Thanks in advance
Bobby Ray

It should be in the root of the partition on which u installed Xp.
e.g: If u installed XP on C:, U will find it in C: itself not in any sub-folder.
It also hidden. So, Open Control Panel->Folder Options. Click on View tab.
Under Hidden Files and Folders, choose Show hidden Files and Folders
Also, remove the check-mark from Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

OK
I think this is what your asking for.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin

Mr. Darth Ash

I did notice in my device mgr that a driver was missing ( 82801DB/DBM SMBus Controller - 24C3 driver ) could this be my prob??

As far as the HJT goes, I never used it but I did install it, is it the log that you need me to post?

U should re-install the driver for it. (Should be in ur motherboard's driver CD)
If u need to download the driver. Click Here
(U will need to register(free) on that page)

If the problem still persists u can post a HJT log.
If u need instructions on using HJT, Refer this link.
(Scroll down to Step FIVE in that page)
