Here it is. Recently my computer is running particularly slowly, suggestion virus, spyware problems. Here's my log

Are you running Norton and eTrust antivirus? You only need one anti-virus program running. It will play havoc on your computer. Please uninstall one. Also, when you post a new log, you must use the newest version of Hijack This which can be found in my signature.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:

• Automatically save log-file
• Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
• Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :

• Scan Within Archives
• Scan Active Processes
• Scan Registry
• Deep Scan Registry
• Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
• Scan my Hosts file
• Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
• All of your hard drives

-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:

• Include additional process information
• Include additional file information
• Include environment information
• Include additional object details

-> Click the Tweak button and select:

• Under the Scanning Engine:
  • Unload recognized processes during scanning
  • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
• Under the Cleaning Engine:
  • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

• Use Custom Scanning Options

-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).


Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

I havent got Norton running anymore.
Tried all of the above, seems to have made little positive effect. For example when I click on IE, the browser comes up almost straight away, but I have to wait a few minutes untill the dial up connection box comes up. Never used to have this problem.

Click in my signature under Hijack This and download the latest version of Hijack This. It does a much better job of picking up the latest threats. You are running an old version and we might be missing something. Your log doesn't look that bad, so let's try this and see if it picks up anything else.

Make sure Norton is uninstalled, as is AVG. Go to add/remove programs and check that log. If they are present, remove them.

Follow the instructions for Hijack This again and put a check in these boxes.

Do me a favor and make sure that you are running an anti-virus and it's up to date. Please let me know what program and if it's updated and running.

Also, is your domain server "RIPE" out of Amsterdam?

These are new entries. Did you download anything or install anything? Find the file and right click on it and tell me what it says.

Oh, by the way, those drivers are for my lexmark printer, don't look suspicious at all. Had these files on my computer since Feb!

After running AVG, I found a trojan horse. dialer.8.h in file C:\info6.cab:\information.exe. AVG doesn't seem to have done anything with it, simply shwon me that it is there! How do I remove it??

About the antivirus situation: you had three anti-virus programs running when you initially posted. You said you hadn't had Norton in awhile, so I told you to get rid of that. I thought you had purchased the etrust so I advised you to get rid of AVG, which is free and you could download it at any time again.

About your printer entries: they weren't on your log until the last log was posted. I know they are legitimate because I looked them up. I just found that it was peculiar that the entries appeared after we began tweaking your log. I didn't know if working on the log had triggered their appearance. So, I was inquiring whether you had just loaded them or they had appeared for another reason.

About the 020...I checked that out with one of our mods - soxrok - and he said to get rid of it but to make sure that you have an option to restore backups so that much harm cant be done if its something that you're not supposed to remove.

About the trojan:

download www.moosoft.com - it's a free trojan cleaner.

AFter you run that, run Hijack This, make sure you are disconnected from the internet and get rid of the 020, run adaware again, clean out your temp. files, and post a new log.
