Does holding the power button in for 10 seconds switch it off
At which point does it stop logging off

open a command prompt and type shutdown -s and see if that does it

are there any error messages? also
start > run, type
eventvwr.msc
<enter>
Look under systems and applications for items with red Xs that happened at the SAME time as your problem...list them here.

Right click the desktop then properties, screensaver, power, advanced to see if it is set to shutdown when the power button is pressed
