It started out slowly, but now the only way I can even connect to the internet is in safe mode (which is what I'm doing now). I read the instructions, and here's my HJT log.

Heya, CurlyGirly77, and welcome to Geeks to Go. My name is Guse and I'll be helping you today.

I'm not seeing anything in your log that would give any indication of an infection. Let's do a couple of things to get to the core of this.

First, reboot your computer.

Then download FindIt's.zip to your desktop:
  • Create a new folder on your desktop
  • Unzip/extract the files inside that folder you created on your desktop.
  • Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ...
  • Then post the results here along with a new HijackThis log by using Add Reply

When I try to open that link, it says:

This Account Has Been Temporarily Suspended for Security Purposes

Is there anywhere else I can find that software? Thanks in advance for your help.

That site apparently got hacked... so let's try this one:

Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
Reboot into Safe Mode

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Thank you for your patience with me. My internet it seems is possessed. Some days it works fine, but then suddenly (like now) it just stops working all together even though my modem and ISP say there aren't any problems. See, here's the thing:

The reason I had you run those scans (one of which probably wasn't necessary at all) was because I don't see anything wrong with your log.

So, let's sort this out another way.

In normal mode, hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE and bring up the Windows Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and then click the CPU header twice. That should organize your processes by CPU usage.

Is one spiking abnormally? Down at the bottom of that window, it has your total CPU usage. What's that hovering around?
