I'm having the Winfixer 2005 popup, and couldn't get rid of it with AdAware or Spyware S&D. Here's my hijack this file:

Welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknigh.../spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Click on the file that begins with newdotnet...dll on the left window and click on the arrow pointing to the right. f there are any others that begin with newdotnet....dll, move those with the right arrow also. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Download CWShredder at http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and then click OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

New.Net
Need2Find

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe - only delete it in the WINDOWS folder, do not delete it anywhere else
C:\WINDOWS\iisvers.exe
C:\Program Files\Wonbnw\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msupd5.exe

Restart and run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Did everything you mentioned, and here's the new log file.
Amazingly enough. there were 34 viruses and a trojan!
Also, the link you provided, "http://uk.trendmicro...ll_launch.php." does not work. The following link:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Does work.
Thanks for the help.

The link I provided should work. Did you do a copy and paste there? You might have just copied the text and not the actual link. The forum here will cut off any link that are too long. As you can see there are .... near the end, indicating that the link is too long and that it's cut off. So here is that same link again. Click on it to see if it works ;) Just to let you know :tazz:

Did TrendMicro remove those 34 trojans? If not, post the log it created here.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000} - (no file)

O23 - Service: Miscrosoft Updates Service 5 (MsUpdate5) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msupd5.exe (file missing)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msupd5.exe

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

You were exactly right about the link problem, but I was still able to find the scanner you were talking about; it was able to remove all viruses and trojans. I removed all the BHOs you said to. I could not find msupd5.exe in System32, but I found three similar files, each called msupd5.exe.mdmp, within C:\Documents and Settings\Jarrod\Maynard.MACHINA\Local Settings\Temp\...one of three folders: \Wer694b.dir00, \WERdb38.dir00, and \WERec29.dir00.

OK, delete all those traces of msupd5.

Let's do all of this in Normal Mode then:

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000}]

Save the file as "delete.reg". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it and choose Yes to merge it. You may delete the file afterwards.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop MsUpdate5
sc delete MsUpdate5
exit

Save the file as "delete.reg". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it and choose Yes to merge it. You may delete the file afterwards.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Miscrosoft Updates Service 5 (MsUpdate5) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Check and fix these in HijackThis if they are still there:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download RegLite and install it. Run it and I want you to put this in the Address field:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\

and delete the {39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000} key entry that you "may" see there. If it's not there, I want you to proceed with the others below doing the same thing (copy into that address box and delete whatever I listed to delete - see if they exist, if not skip and continue on....)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ and delete {39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000}

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\ and delete {7785A73B-BE27-4143-B6DF-3CBA66972B6E}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ and delete {7785A73B-BE27-4143-B6DF-3CBA66972B6E}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {7785A73B-BE27-4143-B6DF-3CBA66972B6E}

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\ and delete {CF98ABF6-DC11-520C-E404-39EBFCB6CA7B}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ and delete {CF98ABF6-DC11-520C-E404-39EBFCB6CA7B}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {CF98ABF6-DC11-520C-E404-39EBFCB6CA7B}

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\ and delete {E9158CFA-A0BF-D495-11F0-FF9B2131EDBD}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ and delete {E9158CFA-A0BF-D495-11F0-FF9B2131EDBD}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {E9158CFA-A0BF-D495-11F0-FF9B2131EDBD}

Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

QuickSearch

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {39A84F80-0000-0000-0500-000000000000} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7785A73B-BE27-4143-B6DF-3CBA66972B6E} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CF98ABF6-DC11-520C-E404-39EBFCB6CA7B} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E9158CFA-A0BF-D495-11F0-FF9B2131EDBD} - (no file)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\FileSubmit\Matrix Reloaded 3D Screensaver\NNEZTA388.exe
C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_38.exe
C:\WINDOWS\pcconfig.dat
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ezPopStub.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\InstaFinder_inst245.exe

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.
