I have run Shredder, which worked fine, but when I run Ad-ware it goes through the ffirst process identifying all the junk. However when I try to delete the items it will not finish this part.
My computer's taskbar does nothing (the active windows do not show in the task bar) and I cannot get Windows Explorer to open up anywhere, anyhow.

Here is my log from HijackThis.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sam,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I still need help.
I was finally able to run Ad-aware in Safe Mode. I was not able to select the "During removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary" option under Cleaning Engine...it was greyed out.
I ran Spybot S&D but it also froze up on me.
I also tried to load Ewido Secuity Suite, but it requires Windows 2000 and above...I have Windows 98.
I also tried to run the Trend Housecall but the site was not responsding for me.
Below is mycurrent HijackThis log.
Please help!
Thanks,
Nancy

I'm sure it's running slowly right now. We'll get you fixed up. :tazz:

Please download and install Cleanup 4.0, but don't run it yet.

===========

Download Newuninst.exe
http://www.thatcompu...s/newuninst.exe

Double click on 'Newuninst.exe' and press *Uninstall*. Let it run and when the progress bar says *complete* you can then press *close*. You must be online to have this work and do not block any attempts for the program to connect to internet if your firewall requests access. It will just run and then close.

===========

Please make sure that you can VIEW ALL HIDDEN FILES.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Sam,
Thank you so much for your information.
I now have my task bar back and in action, as well as my Windows Explorer.

I was not able to run the Panda Virus Scan. I keep getting errors when trying to download. I accepted the ActiveX, I have space on my hard drive and my connection was fine. Not sure why it won't download. I will continue to try to get this running.

However, I am posting my latest HijackThis log for your review.

Thanks again Sam, you have been a hugh help and I really appreciate it.

It's looking better. :tazz:

Let's try another tool that's very similar to Ewido, but will run for your system. Please download and install A2.

http://www.emsisoft..../software/free/

Once installed you will need to register(completely free) in order to download the updates. Make sure you install all updates and then exit the program for now.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

O2 - BHO: CeresObj Class - {00000049-8F91-4D9C-9573-F016E7626484} - C:\WINDOWS\CERES.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Sinsup] ODJIWJF.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Cleaner] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYWARE CLEANER\SPYWARECLEANER.Exe" /boot
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Sinsup] ODJIWJF.EXE
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {120e090d-9136-4b78-8258-f0b44b4bd2ac} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ms.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: MaxSpeed - {120e090d-9136-4b78-8258-f0b44b4bd2ac} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ms.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {6685509e-b47b-4f47-8e16-9a5f3a62f683} - file://C:\PROGRAM FILES\EBATES_MOEMONEYMAKER\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

Search for this file and delete it if found.

ODJIWJF.EXE

Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall this program:

Spyware Cleaner

Now run a full scan with A2 and remove everything that it finds.

If Spysweeper is updated run a full scan with it, otherwise run Adaware.

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and the log from A2. Let me know how it went and any problems that you are still having.

Sam,
My system is looking great. I can't thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Any suggestions on how to keep my computer free of this happening again?

Here is my latest hijackThis log. You asked to attach the A2 log as well, but I am not sure where this is stored or even if it was created. It is not in my A2 Free folder.

Again, Thanks!
Nancy

Just one more line that you may have missed. Fix this line with Hijackthis.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Sinsup] ODJIWJF.EXE

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

    or

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
