Hey, about a week ago I started gettin tons and tons of popups and little desktop icons outta nowhere. I searched my computer and found Aurora and ABI crap in it. So, I came through a lot of the past forums and saw people with the same problems as mine. So, I followed the instructions given in the responses given to them (Get Ewido, Cleanup, restart in safemode, run them, etc). So after I did all that, I dont have Aurora or ABI junk on my control panel list anymore, but I'm getting popups like never before. Every once in a while I'll get some that pop up, and as they are loading another pops up...too fast to even close out the first one...and it keeps going until my whole screen is filled and I have to just shut it down. And the final problem that I just experienced today was that I cannot get into any of my email accounts anymore. I try opening them and they just sit there like theyre loading, but then IE closes them all down and asks if I want to send an error report. I also JUST noticed that my google toolbar has been taken over by some imposter toolbar. Yupsearch or somethin. Alright, so I have my HJT log too, and here it is:

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Well, I ran the l2mfix option 2 and it said that it was removing two programs... rundll32.exe and explorer.exe. after it did that it said that it was doing the first scan, but nothing happened for 2 days. i left it on my computer and left it running thinking maybe it was a really slow process, but nothing ever happened as far as ending the scan and popping up with a logfile. the most that changed is that it said 'winlogoff' and just sat there. So, i tried shutting down my computer and restarting...instead of anything else coming up, the little window for l2mfix popped up and started doin its scan again. i let it, but it did the same thing again...just sat there for about a day. so, i exited that window and was gonna try to use windows again, but none of my icons were there, and neither was my start-bar. so i did this: run-->explorer.exe and everything in windows came back to life. so i have no logfile for l2mfix, but i did get a new one from HJT. Should i try runnin the l2mfix again, or will we be able to work with this?

Uninstall your current version of Ewido as I dont know if it is up to date.

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Boot into safemode to do this keep tapping F8 on your keyboard while your PC is starting up you will get a menu select safemode.

Open Ewido again
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Your log is clean :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
