Hotmail/Messenger PC settings

Whilst I was on vacation my housemate who has now moved to another country, performed a "clean up" on our PC. As a result I can no longer login to hotmail <the page cannot be displayed> or messenger <not available at this time....> I can still browse and I can still login to my work webmail site. I also can log into my hotmail from any other PC. So I believe he has done some scan type thing which has modified some settings. I have tried to reinstall messenger to no avail. Please can someone help??
