Ok I just put Ubuntu Linux on the Family Compaq Desktop, because my Windows XP disk is severally scratched and I can't use it. :tazz:

Well its a Compaq Presario 6301RSH. I installed Ubuntu successfuly, however the resolution is at 640x480 and it won't let me change it. Is there anywhere I can find Linux drivers for this.

Here is the information about the computer.

Also I just found out I need sound drivers as well, and while I'm thinking of it, can I install a HP psc1315 printer?

Hey yanowhiz!

Well, I'm not that familiar with your Compaq model, but there are some things we can try and see what happens.

Let's start with the resolution as that is a real pain at 640x480. Are you familiar with VI editor? We will prolly have to modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Ok, so how would I do that?

If you couldn't tell this is like only my 2nd time using Linux, 1st time was just playing games and surfing the net on myCompaq laptop which I didn't have a problem with.

Generally if you go to the device mfrs. website you will find drivers for all operating systems, including Linux. If you can look on the device and get the exact part number you will probably get the best results.

I will look for you on Sunday. I don't want to post anything when I'm not going to be around (I'm gone until Sunday afternoon) in case you are left with an Xserver that won't start....
