Speeding up Mozilla-Firefox

I use Opera and Mozilla for browsers. There are sites which aren't user friendly in Opera so I have to switch to Mozilla. However the speed difference in loading pages, finding items in search etc. is so noticeable. Is there any way to speed up Mozilla?
I downloaded the latest version just in case that was the problem.
