[COLOR=blue]I am having trouble deleting some downloaded files. I deleted the files and they were sent to my recycle bin. Then I deleted the files from my recycle bin. When I go back to my downloaded files they mysteriously reappear. Can you please help me.

Could you please give us more details. What type of files are they? Also, let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. <_<

Most of these files are from my son going through his teen experimental phase, but they are mixed in with some of my files. There are various file, but I can only open the ones I downloaded. Please let me know what I can do to assist you. Also can you recommend any free spyware and anti-virus programs? Thanks

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Some hijacks interfere with the installation of Service Pack 2, so we'll hold of for now. When we're finished cleaning your computer we highly recommend installing SP2. Click here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
-or-
It's a very large download, so if you're on dial-up, order a free CD here:
http://www.microsoft...default810.mspx

Did you go to this link and try to directly download sp1a?
http://www.microsoft...p1/default.mspx

Try this too.
http://www.softpedia...9/13-9-20.shtml

If neither of these installation processes for sp1a work then you might have an illegitimite copy of windows in which case sorry to say we can not help you fix the problem because without sp1a you will be wide open to reinfection.
