I have an annoying problem. When I turned on my computer two days ago, two Internet Explorer icons appeared on my desktop. One says "Drusearch.com - Find Everything You Want!" The other says "New cool search engine". I deleted them only to find them again when I restart. For some reason I decided to check internet explorer and the home page is set to brutal-videos.net. I set it back to yahoo but again when I restart, it's back again. I ran spyhunter but that didn't find anything, even if it did I can't remove witout buying the full version. I installed norton 2003 and virus scan didn't find anything but Norton Antivirus Auto protect gave a message saying rundll32.vbe is running malicious script. I know rundll32 is part of windows but for some reason, like a moron, I authorized the script. I then downloaded hijackthis and scanned. Here are the results:

You see all the brutal videos and the drusearches. I had hijackthis fix them, only to reboot and find them again!!! Now I suspect one of the rundll32.vbe 's is to blame. But I don't know which one, can you help or am I on my own with this? Please don't say I gotta reinstall Windows XP. I did that twice already I month ago.

Your computer has a number of spyware programs that we need to remove. For more info on spyware see the Spyware FAQ link in my signature.

Let's start with a couple free programs. If you're on dial-up, just download and install Spybot Search & Destroy. If you're using broadband also download and install Ad-aware. Using two programs increases the likelihood of eliminating these spyware pests automatically.

Using Spybot: Start Spybot S&D using the "Spybot-S&D (easy mode)" link from your Start menu . Click the Search for updates button, if any are found then click the Download Updates button. After all updates are downloaded, click the Check for problems button. When the scan is complete, place a check next to anything marked in red, then click the Fix selected problems button.

Using Ad-aware: Open Ad-Aware and use the Check for updates now link. Download and accept the latest reference file. When finished click the Start button. When done scanning, the Abort button will change to Next. Click the Next button. Right-click in the Scanning Results window and click "Select all objects". Then click the "Next" button and confirm that you want to delete the selected entries.

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<
