Is your secondary machine connected straight to the modem or off a hub or router?- did you try running the network connection wizard as well?

If I had to guess, your sold system was running ICS and connected to the modem/broadband router and now your system isn't connected to anything. If this is not your scenario, please clarify. Is the green light on your network card lit and solid? Are you able to ping your router? Are you able to ping yourself? What is the IP information?

START>RUN>CMD [enter]
ping 127.0.0.1 [enter]
ping <router IP> [enter]
ping apache.org [enter]
ipconfig /all [enter]
