Hello Aslion :tazz:

After conferring with one of the Experts we may have the problem narrowed down

Download FixO.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click FixO.exe to install the program.
  • After it's installed, open the FixO folder and double-click FixO.bat.
  • When it's done running a notepad will appear with a log, please copy the contents of the notepad and paste it into your next reply.

I have re-booted, and nothing has changed. : (

However, there are two files within the Fix-O folder. One is called Fix-O, I believe and appears to simply be a scan. That is the one I ran. Was I also supposed to run Process--which sounds more likely to fix something? Please advise.

Thanks.

There was no Restore Registry icon. There were two files, .bat and Process. I now have run both, and rebooted after each time. Still no start button, desktop or print capability.

The good news is that I found the registry restore file (it didn't have an icon). The bad news is that I still have no desktop.

Other than the start button and desktop problem (Not that those arent problems)
is the computer running fine. Do you get any error messages at startup?

Well thats good.

Lets try this . I have ran it fine without the Xp cd but it doesnt work for everyone.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:
My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan. If this still asks you to put in your windows XP CD, and you do not have the CD (If you bought it preinstalled) post back for more tips,

Once the scan is complete:

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed

Thanks. I ran it through task manager. It ran without incident, but I still don't have a task bar.
