Replaced hardrive in a HP8700 due to a major crash.Tried to reload Win98, but all I get is a black screen an a C:\. Reset BIOS, FDISK and Formatted still no go. BIOS shows the hardrive but no CD-ROM. This is a Recovery CD. Is there anyway to fix this mess.

Try starting your computer with a Windows 98 boot disk. That'll load drivers for you CD-ROM and should allow you access the recovery CD.
