Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Hi Dawg105,

Open Notepad.
Copy the text from the box to an empty file.
Save it as ‘export.bat’ to your desktop.
Choose Save as Type as "All Files"

regedit /e c:\smit.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD"

Close Notepad.

Find ‘export.bat’ on your desktop.
Doubleclick the file. It will create a file called ‘smit.txt’ in c:\
Copy the entire text and past it to your reply here in this topic.

Hi Dawg105,

These are only registry keys left behind by PSGuard. The files have been cleaned / deleted.

Lets fix the registry also.

Please copy the following in a new text file in Notepad and save it as fix.reg (make sure the Save as Type is set to All Files) -

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD]
"VersionInfo"=-
"DATABASE_VER"=-
"DATE"=-
"SIGNATURES"=-
"RegistrationUrl"=-
"@"=-
"InstallDir"=-
"DatabaseFile"=-
"ResourceDll"=-
"SCAN_DEPTH"=-
"SCAN_PRIORITY"=-
"QuarantineLocation"=-
"MinOnStartup"=-
"ScanOnStartup"=-
"StartAtWinStartup"=-
"EnableRTMonitoring"=-
"AlwaysBlockChanges"=-
"AlwaysBlockWhenNoAV"=-
"PerformUpdate"=-
"UpdateInterval"=-
"MGuid"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD\PSGuard]
"InstallationID"=-

Double click on fix.reg and let it merge with the registry.

Reboot the PC and do a scan with Panda again. Post back the scan report here.

Also let me know if you have any issues with your PC.

Hey Tampabelle,

Looks like the PS Guard is gone and the Panda Scan was clean..however, it is taking a full 3-4 minutes for Windows to launch (specifically for the icons to appear on the desktop) Other than that it seems OK.

Thanks very much. I really appreciate your assistance. Your responses have been timely and directions easy to follow. Hope we can resolve this last issue.

Warm Regards,
Dawg105

Hi Dawg105,

Lets clean up some unwanted stuff from your HJT log. That should speed up your PC.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [delfile] C:\delfiles.cmd

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Please note that fixing the entries in HJT would only prevent them programs from running at startup. You can always manually run the programs.

You also have Spysweeper installed on your PC. Please do a scan with Spysweeper and let it fix anything it finds.

Reboot the PC and let me know how your PC is now !!!!

Hi dawg105,

Your HJT log is clean. Lets clean up a little bit of your Registry.

*Please dowload: RegSeeker.
*Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
*Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
*After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
*Click "Quit RegSeeker".

Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run the RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. It may have to be run several times, but you want it finding none to very few items. *Make sure to reboot between each use of the program.

Let me know how it goes

It cleaned over 500 entries. When I re-boot, it keeps trying to install "TrayApp". It says I need to install the cd. Unfortunatley, I do not have the cd for this. Can I get it from the internet? Is it needed?

Thanks

It was my printer. The printer CD fixed it.

Everything seems to be working properly again. Thanks!
