Router Recommendations?

Can anyone advise me.?

I have recently signed up for broadband in the UK and want to be able to connect 2 PCs so that both can get access to the internet / seperate e-mail accounts.

From reading around various sites it looks like the easiest way to do this is to buy a router with a built in modem. Can anyone recommend a good router? Is it worth spending extra for a wireless router and also is all this possible with WIndows XP Home edition or do I need use Windows XP Pro.

Linksys make good Routers. I have the Linksys WRT54G and never had a problem yet with it. Yes all of this can be done with Windows XP Home, and Pro. I hope that this has help you. Also Netgear makes good routers too.

Hi There!

I have been looking for the Linksys router recommended and The cheapest i could find online was at

I was just curious as in the spec it says Requires an Ethernet Cable / ADSL Modem.

Can someone confirm that I will not need to buy a modem aswell because all I will have is two PC's and broadband availability from the telephone socket. Will I need to buy any other cables etc..

The broadband is DSL right. Most of the DSL provides give you a modem, but if I were you I would check with them.

I have ordered the speedtouch 530 (i) through the hardware supplier to my asp because it incorporated an integrated modem. Thanks for the advise though!

Just out of interest it says that it has an integrated firewall. Does this mean that I can disable the Mcaffee and Win XP firewalls or if I have applications that run firewalls should i I keep them enabled for maximum security.

Yes. The hardware fire wall included is much more secure, and doesn't use any system resources. You won't need any additional software firewalls.
