Help- Ive had my computer less then three months. It was put together by someone who is very technically competent.

I upgraded it to athlon xp2000, 512Ram, 80g harddrive (still 40 g left)new fans etc/heat sinks. Im running windows 2000 on it.

It has been working really well up to about two weeks ago. The first signs of trouble were whilst playing games online a message would pop up saying low virtual memory. i would be brought back to the desktop and after that I could carry on gaming with no more messages.

After a few days my computer then randomly flipped to a blue screen saying

Stop: 0x00000001 0x0000004 0x00000002 0x0000000 0x00000004
Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or equal
Dumping Physical Memory

I couldn't get out of this screen and would have to switch it off from the case.

A friend then ajusted the page size from 1000mb to 2000mb inial size and 2000mb to 4000mb maximum size.

Now the computer is flipping to the blue screen more and more frequently. Another problem is the computer will also flip to the log in screen or turn its self off.
I have no ideas if this is virus related, I'm using the latest version of Norton and check my computer weekly for viruses. I am though on a university network which are notorius for virus/hacker attacks.
Please help thankyou <_< :D

Hey bonzo,

Although I see your pc is riddled with spyware/adware this is not what is causing your problems. I am sure one of the moderators will be in to help you with your Hijack This log. As for your other issue, that is a hardware problem. By the sounds of it you bought a pc in parts and had a friend install and set it up. The problem with doing this however is that some motherboards are not always compatible with other hardware. Specifically and nototriously those which cause the biggest problems are videocards and ram sticks. This looks like it could be a problem concerning one or possibly both of those. Your video card and ram. If it is the video card you could try and turning down the hardware acceleration. If this does not work, consider trying a different video card. What mainboard are you using? Video card? Ram type?

There can be many different causes to this but it is definately a hardware issue. If you could post your exact pc hardware configuration there will be a bigger chance of resolving this.

Ok, this was exactly what I feared. The reason you keep getting the BSOD and spontaneous reboots is because of the combination of the VIA chipset and your Radeon video card. Rest assured you are not the only one to have encountered this problem. I have also fallen into the trap of thinking that a pc is a pc and components are components. They should go together nicely no matter what. Not so as I found out much to my detriment. There is a problem here of your mainboard using the installed VIA chipset drivers trying to take over the for the video-card drivers. This is not to say you have a bad video card. This happens with many Video cards and the VIA chipset. As an integrated solution where you run an integrated graphics processor as part of the mainboard this would not cause a problem. The problem comes from the installation of the Radeon card. A solution would be to not use the VIA chipset and switch to a nVidia chipset which rarely has any problems. Or, you could try to not use the VIA drivers. As this is a component machine, hopefully, the board and bios did not come with them preconfigured. Try uninstalling the AGP drivers for you chipset and then reinstalling the video card.

But I shall do some more investigation and see if there are any easier options for getting past the VIA and video card issue.

You could try this...seems it has worked for a number of people concerning similar problems you are having with lock-ups and BSOD.

Start
Right click-mouse over My Computer
Properties
Hardware(Tab)
Device Manager(button)
Click [+] next to System devices
right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called)
Update Driver(button)

Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next(button)
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Next(button)
Finish(button)
Reboot.

Let me know how this works for you.
Good luck.

hmmmm, I left my system with azureus running and it was all looking good, it ran for an hour and half and then my computer logged me off. I logged on and loaded up Azureus and returned to my computer half an hour later and it flipped to the blue screen.

I am not running azureus now and the system has been all good, ill report back in an hour or so <_<

Hi bonzo. You are a spyware magnet. Print this out and follow it closely.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Ok here's the latest hijack this. I couldn't get the virus scanner to work so I did a full system scn using Norton. I've also noticed that some of the files I fixed have reappeared in this log, I've left them in because I wasn't sure whether or not to delete them. Thanks again for all the help.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

C:\WINNT\System32\P2P Networking

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Thanks once again for all the replies. My system does seem a lot smoother and there has been a noticable difference in its performance. I've yet to have a crash/memory dump which is very promising. Here is the latest hijack this log.
