Hello,

My problem is that I cannot control my desktop PC with my laptop.
They are both connected through a LAN cable, and more or less easily recognize each other with Map Network Drive.
I have recently installed Symantec's PCAnywhere on both computers, and while I'm able to control my laptop with the desktop smoothly, the only way to do this vice versa (Laptop as the Remote client, Desktop as server/ host) is by submitting an active "calling" (or invitation?) from the desktop to the laptop. It wouldn't recognise it otherwise and report as "could not find computer".
Do you think it has to do with activating any service? I tried tweaking with them and activate services that seemed relevant, but my laptop will still play "blind" and wont trace the desktop.

Thank you for your help

Is XP's firewall enabled on either of these computers? If so, you're going to have to disable it, or open some ports.

When trying to conenct to the host computer are you searching by computer name, or IP address. IP address works best.

Hi Admin,
Well, both have their XP firewall turned off. I have Norton Personal Firewall 2003 installed on both with privileges for PCAnywhere.
The part that amazes me is that Remote Control is enabled, but only one way: Desktop controlling Laptop. The other way around the connection cannot be made unless the desktop sends a "call" first inviting the "Remote".
I try to search by IP to no avail.
still 8-(
Thanks

I have just tried to ping each pc with the other.
As expected the desktop pings to the laptop with no problem. The ping is very good under 1 ms. While pinging the desktop from the laptop results with 4 request time outs.
How can this be? Only one-way communication?
PS: Both have all the network protocols (exact same configuration) installed (tcp/ip etc.).

SERENITY NOW!
