Hi, I'm having problems with Psguard Malware and a Browser Hijacker (win-eto.com). I only have Ad-aware on the computer, and have tried to get rid of them, but they keep coming back. I have an Ad-aware log, but that's it. Here it is...

GREYKNIGHT17: Ad-aware log edited out....

Sorry I only have the Ad-aware log, thanks.

Welcome to GTG.

We don't need that log. It's wasting a lot of space here, so I edited it out.

Please read the first link in my signature and follow the steps outlined there. When you are ready, post the HijackThis log here. Skip Ad-aware since you ran it already.

That log just doesn't look right. But ok :tazz:

I will be PMing you another file to run. Make sure you run that also. See below on when to run it (see second to last paragraph in RED).

Download smitRem.zip at http://noahdfear.gee.../click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.
Unzip the file to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and read the Ewido setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee.../ewidosetup.htm. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee...areSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...lO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=0
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=0
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Redirect] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSBHO.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\intell32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard spyware remover] C:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Nodc] C:\Program Files\eoas\sua.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.skoobidoo.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotchbar.com (HKLM)

Open the smitRem folder and double click on the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSBHO.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\intell32.exe
C:\Program Files\PSGuard\
C:\Program Files\eoas\

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

I want you to run that tool that I PMed to you now.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido log (if you ran it).

OK, the other log in your PM that you gave me is clean now :tazz:

Are you running smitRem in Safe Mode?

OK, do this:

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\MODULEUSAGE\C:/WINDOWS/DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES/MEDIATICKETSINSTALLER.OCX]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{eee4a2e5-9f56-432f-a6ed-f6f625b551e0}]

Save the file as "delete.reg". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it and choose Yes to merge it. You may delete the file afterwards.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\msdos.exe
C:\new.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\q330994.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ALL USERS\DESKTOP\PSGuard spyware remover.lnk
C:\WINDOWS\bbchk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\bridge.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\jao.dll
C:\WINDOWS\itshta.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msxmidi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\6hv7nycxbnthz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\956g36ufvn6oyi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\backup.old
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\l3sie10yt3s18g.bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\sccf5djxoofdc.bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\sysbho.exe
C:\WINDOWS\toolbar.exe

Boot into Safe Mode and run smitRem again.

Restart and post the logs for HijackThis, smitRem and Panda (run a new scan).

Alright, I'm up to the Panda Activescan again, should I scan my entire computer again, and should I have it detect unknown viruses (heuristic)?

[/U]EDIT: IF THIS IS THE LAST MESSAGE YOU SEE IN THE TOPIC, THERE ARE MORE, I HAVE TO REFRESH THE PAGE TO VIEW THEM, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ALSO

Okay, I did everything, seems like PSGuard is gone, hasn't came back. I got the same message from smitRem as before, and yes, I have been in safe mode each time you instructed me to. Intell32 is still in my system, and I'm getting the message that wininet.dll is infected, and that Panda Activescan can take care of it, but it hasn't each time. Could I just make my system and hidden files visible, delete it, and make a copy of the one on my other computer, then put it on this one? Anyways, here are the log files...

Nope. I'm not having any problems seeing your posts here :tazz:

Let's twist things around a little and see how it works out:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msxslab.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\intell32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mstasks1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\loadnew.exe

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\intell32.exe

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\WINTRUST\TRUST PROVIDERS\SOFTWARE PUBLISHING\TRUST DATABASE\0\PPCIMDNNNJBEAHEPFABJIPFGINLOEDKG EGCKAK]

Save the file as "delete.reg". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it and choose Yes to merge it. You may delete the file afterwards.

Open the smitRem folder and double click on the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido log (if you ran it).

Okay, I'm getting ready to do the Panda ActiveScan now, it's making me download the ActiveX stuff again, which took about 2 hours yesterday, because all I can get out here is dial-up. Intell32 is still there, I think wininet.dll is still infected, it didn't help yesterday, could I just go and try something new?

Edit: Great... I thought we had PSGuard taken care of, it's back...

Boot into Safe Mode and run that smitRem file you unzipped again.

Restart and post all the new logs.

For Panda, let's skip that since it's taking too long for you. Run this instead:

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here.

Also give me this log:
Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID the bad files.

Once you copy that to a Notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.
