I have ran CW shredder, found nothing. BUT when I run AD-aware it finds LOTS of malware. I click on remove and it says it quarrantines it then it says it is removing it. THEN I get an "attention the following files could not be removed" and there is a long list. I will reboot and run it again and then it WILL remove them all, but then they all reinstall right away. I have also ran spybot but it never seems to find anything (yes I did updates on both). I have ran them in safe mode, too. Also have Zone Alarm firewall, but it was only installed AFTER I discovered the infection.) It is blocking lots of attempts and seems to have slowed down the pop ups. Here is my HJT log...please help. Thanks! (BTW this is my retired parents computer and it does NOT look good, lol)

Oh...wanted to add...this is what Ad-aware is coming up with:

Browser Aid
Bargain Buddy
Exact search Bar
Ezula
Promulgate
VX2
PeopleOnPage

Again...after I do a virus scan and remove them, they come right back.

OK here we go.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set up PC to show hidden files.(Click link if you do not know how)
Show hidden files

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they still exist:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\SURFSIDEKICK 3\SSKBHO.DLL (file missing)

I don't know what the ewido log is you refered to ??

Also...in your above directions...when you told me to go into windows explorer and "delete the following files if found" I don't know if I am slow today or what, lol, but the only one I could find was windows\system\spomsp.exe...BUT the way I was viewing it it just said SPOMSP next to an icon. I deleted it anyway..hope this was okay. Anyway...looking forward to your reply. The popups have stopped so I know we are making progress! Yippie! :tazz:

Download L2mfix from this location:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

Okay...did as you instructed and DL'd l2mfix.exe to my desktop. Double clicked on it and it placed a second file on my desktop. When I open that and click on the only file that says l2mfix (no .bat) it opens a black screen that says "directory already exists syntax error" AND my notepad pops up and it says "Not compatible with 9x or windows nt"

Did I miss something? :tazz: My choices to click on in that 2nd file are: backregs, regfixes, direct, download, fixautont.html, l2mfix, locate, not, ntrights, process, read me, reboot, regDACL, second, strings, unzip, zip.

Thanks!

That's what I did. I clicked on l2mfix in the second folder and it opened the black screen with the syntax error message and the notepad with the not compatible message. There were no options to choose.

Also...if I press 1 and then enter when the black screen is up, it says "this MSDos program has terminated. Click the close button in the corner of the window after you have viewed the output and any possible error messages." It also says "finished-l2mfix" at the top margin of the black screen. I tried it several times and I waited and nothing, lol.

Oh sorry...looked over the log a little closer and I have a question about:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AQ3HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRAM FILES\AQUATICA WATERWORLDS\AQ3HELPER.EXE /partner AQ3

At one time my mother had a fishtank type screensaver that she got from a pop up... :tazz: I know I know...anyway...I removed it...I thought, but this makes me think there might be a little something left of it.

Yeah aquatica is adware from the screensaver. We'll clear it up

Here we go.

Reboot into safe mode, rescan with HJT and check the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AQ3HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRAM FILES\AQUATICA WATERWORLDS\AQ3HELPER.EXE /partner AQ3
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service62] C:\WINDOWS\ETB\POKAPOKA62.EXE

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Ensure pc setup to show hidden files and using windows explorer locate and delete the following if found:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\AQUATICA WATERWORLDS\AQ3HELPER.EXE /partner AQ3
C:\WINDOWS\ETB\POKAPOKA62.EXE

Reboot pc normally, then carry out another free online scan from the following link.

Bitdefender

Rescan with HJT post the log back, together with the bitdefender result
