Unknown malware after PS guard/Puper removal [RESOLVED]

Total newby at this - and my first post.

Had a nice set of malware, including Antigold, PS guard, Puper/shnlog to name but a few. Looked like your recommended homework cleared most, but I must be missing something as I still get a "System Warning" message - which in itself I don't trust, as it asks me to click Yes to go to Anti Spyware. I am posting that message along with my HJT log below - hope I did it all correctly. Spysweeper keeps coming up with intell32.exe - is that exe malware?

Welcome to GTG.

Download smitRem.zip at http://noahdfear.gee.../click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.
Unzip the file to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and read the Ewido setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee.../ewidosetup.htm. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee...areSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Open the smitRem folder and double click on the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido log (if you ran it).

Ok - done all that and just when I want to post all the logs requested - I can't find back the Panda ActiveScan log...

Any idea where it gets saved to and what it is named?

Ran Activescan again - and of course promptly found the initial scan report! Grrrr.

Anyway, here are the scan logs from all the scans you suggested. I have included both Panda Activescan logs so you can see the difference between the two. Looks like PSGuard and this pinstall.dll are not deletable? None of the programs appear to have kicked out PS Guard (though many of them pick up its presence).

Yes, that's a very stubborn entry. I will PM you a tool to remove it. This tool is not available to the public, so please delete it after you are done. I want you to look at your PM before attempting the fix below:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

You may run them in Safe Mode if you wish. I don't think it should matter much in this case.

There is one called "House Call" linked to http://housecall60.t...all/xscan60.cab, which has 13 files in its Dependency tab - and I have no idea what it does.

Curiously, the log does not show the three additional files I am suspicious about. Their IDs under Properties are:

The log you PMed me is clean :tazz:

All those Downloaded Program Files are ok. Housecall is an online antivirus scanner - see it here if you wish. That link I gave you is for the Java version. The one you have (with 13 other files) is for the ActiveX version which can be found here. You may delete these Downloaded Program Files if you wish. They will just be reinstalled again once you visit a site that requires that specific ActiveX control.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Thanks for all your help! It looks like everything is clean - though the start-up process now takes up to 3 or 4 minutes, which seems rather long. I expect that various malware blocking software I have downloaded to cobat this attack is slowing down the start-up as it checks for updates etc.

I will check out the tutorial and thanks again for your help. I very much appreciate it.
