Hello. I've got a friends' laptop here and she's had some major issues w/ viruses/adware and I've manage to get rid of the easy/obivious stuff, but there's a few items that elude my heavy foot. Remaining are a few items, such as > dialer.instantaccess / nailer.exe / betterinternet. Symantec fires up after every reboot alerting me to their presence, prompts for a reboot to removal and upon reboot they're back. I suspect there's more issues, but one thing at a time. Before I paste my HJT log, I'll cover what I've done thus far...

1. Full system scan numerous time w/ symantec av v.10
2. Numerous Ad-Aware scans
3. Numerous Ewido scans
4. HJT scans > clean/fix
5. Garbage Clean scans

Using the above actions found TONS of crap on her computer, simply amazing actually. I am by no means an expert here, but in talking with her she just didn't understand how it could be that bad. At any rate, any help/pointers would be great. I'm afraid a clean install of XP may be in order > I discovered she hadn't installed Service Pak 2 yet, upon trying to do so, the install failed, twice. I'm hoping removing the remaing issues will allow SP2 to install correctly, then again...

Without further Ado, the HJT log file, and again, thank you for this forum and your assistance!

Hello Iamelf and welcome to Geeks To Go :tazz:

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

John,

Thanks for the response. Yeah, after trying to get SP2 installed without success, I am currently installing ALL other updates of critical nature. I'll post back upon completion.

THanks again.

I'll have to hold off until mon/tues. to post again, as she needed to take the laptop home to print up some drawings for her job.

I was finally able to get through SP1a, but will wait until she brings it back to generate another log file, thanks thus far.
