Had a really tough time trying to post that reply. I had it all as one, but had to break it up to submit it. :tazz:

1. I went to Kat's eTrust link and they are offering a deal on the Internet Security Suite for 2 years

Did you click on the Free download link?

Is your video card an extra card that plugs into the motherboard or part of the motherboard?
The old computer you have does it have a video card you can take out?

Leaktest

I think this is what I already have, but can't delete or uninstall. I looked through the website, but couldn't find any information on how to delete it.

I'm not sure about the video card. I'm pretty sure the one in my computer is plugged into the motherboard, but I'm not sure about the old computer. I really don't know what I'm looking for there. Not to ask a really stupid question here, but is it the card that the monitor plugs into?

Just a quick note: I finally got Nero to work, so I don't need another cd writer.

Peter, I'm sorry I forgot to answer your question about eTrust. I did check out the free link, but thought if everyone was so in favor of it, that it would be worth the $30 for the 2 year Suite price they have available right now. My concern was about the extended thing and being able to continue to download during the subscription period.

Sorry
The leak test link was for Noahdfear
$30.00 for 2 years GREAT
In Aus $85.00 a year
Yes the video card is what the monitor plugs into, But so there is not a lot of confusion going on
I think we need to wait till Noahdfear has got all files cleaned then go for the monitor. Don't need you trying to jump from 1 thing to another

Had a little scare when I found "taskmon.exe" and looked it up. First couple of things I read were talking about MyDoom, etc., till I found one that explained where the differences in the locations were. Whew!!! :) Much better now!

I emptied my temp folders and files, ran disk cleanup and tried to do the command ipconfig /flushdns, but got Windows IP configuration command line options instead. /flushdns doesn't appear to be an option with WinME.

When I ran the disk cleanup, I didn't check the uninstall Windows box. Is it ok to delete that now or should I wait to make sure everything goes ok first. It just made me think twice, so I waited. I'm learning to trust my instincts first, opinions second.

I'm also having a whole lot of computer lock ups and have to cold reboot. I know WinME has problems, but is this a part of the life of WinME. I guess I'm still wondering if I shouldn't upgrade to XP, but I'm afraid that not all of my programs will be compatible and I can't afford to replace them right now. :tazz:

Thanks for all your help. :)

Just to fill in the blanks, totianni mentioned in PM that IE was running very slow, so I instructed her to do a few things, which she addressed in the previous reply. :)

totianni,

It's quite alright to leave those Windows setup files in disk cleanup.

Have you noticed any particular programs causing the lockups?

I'm still reviewing the MWAV log.......will get some instructions posted later. :tazz:

Sorry, I didn't even notice that you had asked a question. :) I was waiting for you to respond about that manuscript you received. :tazz:

No programs in particular are locking it up; however, I've pretty much only been using Firefox, Outlook Express, WordPerfect and Photoshop. It still seems to be pretty slow. :)

Hi totianni,

Sorry for the delay.....I've had alot going on here. :tazz:

I've finally gotten through your MWAV log, and there's actually little to be done. First, open C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\YPSR\Quarantine and delete the following files.

20050610174523.zip
20050613220346.zip

Now open Spybot and click Recovery from the left column. Select all backups and purge them.

Run MWAV again and let us know the results.

Open regedit to the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\Software\Altnet

Right click and choose permissions. If your username is not listed, click Add, then type you username in the window and click 'check names'. It should locate your username. Click OK. Your username should now be listed on the Security tab. Select it and make sure you have full access. Close the properties window. Repeat for the Altnet subkeys, then beginning with the lowermost subkey, right click and delete until you can delete the Alnet key.

Are you still using McAfee? If you do opt for eTrust, you don't need the extended option. Just save the setup file when you download it.

I deleted the files above and did the recovery.

Couldn't locate the Altnet key in the registry.

Are you still using McAfee? If you do opt for eTrust, you don't need the extended option. Just save the setup file when you download it.

I uninstalled McAfee and installed etrust for virus protection.

I'm still having "slow" and "stalling" on the system.

I will run another MWAV log and forward.

I remember doing all this, responding here, but can't remember what happened. Maybe it locked up again and never posted.

Sorry for the delay in the reply. I've really gotten tied up with family stuff and the kids. I'll get to that log as soon as I can. Thanks for all the support.

Well, I just found the post I referred to above. At least, part of it:

Open regedit to the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\Software\Altnet

Right click and choose permissions. If your username is not listed, click Add, then type you username in the window and click 'check names'. It should locate your username. Click OK. Your username should now be listed on the Security tab. Select it and make sure you have full access. Close the properties window. Repeat for the Altnet subkeys, then beginning with the lowermost subkey, right click and delete until you can delete the Alnet key.

There were no registry entries for Altnet.

I only found the following files (altnet*.*):
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET.ZIP Compressed Folder 9/15/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET File Folder 9/15/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET\ALTNET File Folder 9/15/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET\ALTNET\ALTNET.BAT MS-DOS Batch File 4/24/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET\ALTNET\ALTNET Text Document 9/15/05

and these files containing "altnet" (text):
C:\WINDOWS\USER DAT File 9/21/05
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACTIVESCAN\PAV.SIG SIG File 8/12/05
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ACTIVESCAN\ACTIVESCAN\PAV.SIG SIG File 8/12/05
C:\WINDOWS\APPLOG\APPLOG.IND IND File 9/20/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\MWAV-ERRORS MS Word Doc 9/12/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\MWAV912 Text Doc 9/15/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\MWAV915 Text Doc 9/15/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\MWAV-ERRORS915 MS Word Doc 9/12/05
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ALTNET\ALTNET\ALTNET.BAT MS-DOS Batch File 4/24/05
C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\IDENTITIES\{##} Outlook Express 9/20/05
(Multiple folders)

Downloaded the attached Altnet.zip file to my desktop, extracted it to it's own folder, then opened and ran the Altnet.bat file.

Here's the Altnet.txt: This program needs Windows NT 4.0 to run!

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get to the video card. Thank you so much for sticking it out and being so patient.

I just got my hubby to get the old computer back down so I could pull the old card tonight. I've pulled it and installed it, but I can't get more than 16 colors and it's not finding nor letting me install the correct card. Of course, I'm not great with the hardware stuff anyway.

I pulled the card and installed it in my newer computer. I couldn't locate any information on the card other than Trident, but when my computer booted up, I got "Trident Blade 3D." I searched on line for drivers, which I downloaded and unzipped, but still can't seem to install it correctly. I'm not certain of the "model number" either. I tried everything that it listed, but it couldn't find the correct *.dll files for the models listed. It's installed as Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) with Microsoft drivers.

Oh, yeah. By the way, all the squiggley lines and distortion are gone, but my graphics suck!

This 640 x 480 -- 16 color display has got to go. What can I do to give me the options I need to change the colors and size? I didn't have it set this way on my old system and had the ability to change the options.

I'm so glad I've had everyone here to help get me out of this mess. I can't believe how long everyone stuck it out and never gave up . . . and never let me give up! What a fantastic group of people we have here! Thanks so much for all your help.

Here is the MWAV error report. I removed (hopefully) only the non-error scanned files, but tried to leave all of the important and status info.
