I am computer brain dead, but I HAVE managed to get rid (I hope) of a few trojans including apropos. I used Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper and AVG to remove what I could. Spy Sweeper keeps coming up with bhe00nn.exe and can't seem to get rid of it, none of them can. Plus the pop-ups are still with me. Keep in mind, I am clueless so if you can help me, no big words please.

Thanks so much,
Bri

Welcome to GTG Briar <_<

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. :D

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spmntprf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\soltprio.exe
C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\4twl4.dll
C:\Program Files\DogpileToolbar\insptbar.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bhe00nn.exe

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

As soon as my computer came back up, Spy Sweeper came up with the bhe00nn.exe thing again. I made the log file THEN clicked remove on Spy Sweeper. I am not certain if it got rid of it or not.

Thanks,
Bri.

Also, I have been using the Dogpile toolbar as a popup blocker and my MSN messenger plus is gone. Can I readd them now?

Thanks,

I have dogpile set as one of my home pages, but this is different:

Read this on the toolbar:
http://www.spynet.co...re-Dogpile.aspx

Since switching to firefox, I have not had ONE pop-up.
-------------------
On: MSN Messenger Plus 3 - read this:

MessengerPlus - third party MSN Messenger extension that adds a number of useful features. Bundles the hard to remove C2Media LOP adware. The software does offer you a choice during setup - make sure to install MessengerPlus WITHOUT that "sponsor program"!

There is a harmful version of MSN Plus 3 that is an adult content dialer. I may have misidentified it.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure. Please move Hijack This to a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?.
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files:

C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa\

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows TaskAd] C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd\WinTaskAd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Tsa2] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsm2.exe

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<
