the only way that that ubcd wouldn't recognize the drive is if it is horribly corrupted.....or not formatted properly...let me see if i can get some instructions for you to run scandisk on it

on the cd under programs > disk tools > diagnostics...try check disk and disk check ( they should be right on top of each other) also try running the memtest under system info > daignostics

chdsk fixed some errors & I am able to to windows safe mode
i am going to copy off all important files

What is advice after that CAn windows fix itself? or do you reccomend full recovery?

you could try a repair.....but at this stage i would suggest just wiping the thing and starting over...especially since we have no idea what caused the issue to begin with

Used the disk programs you reccomended which fixed a few bad sectors/files

Seems to working fine Not going to recover unless additional problems appear
