Hello all,

Here is what I have done pre HiJackThis:

Show all files, including system files

Cleaned out temp folders with CCleaner and CleanUp!

Removed all suspicious programs listed in Add/Remove Programs

Scanned with AdAware SE, SpyBot, Ewido Security Suite, Avast Antivirus, CWShredder, Kill2Me, Trojan Hunter, Trend Micro Online Virus & Spyware, About:Buster, RootKit Revealer and Spy Sweeper, all with the latest definitions.

I also defragged the HD with Diskeeeper.

Here is my current HJT log:

Hello again,

I have been searching around the net trying to get this mess fixed. It seems like everything is ok, according to HJT, but the machine is still alittle on the slow side, compared to what it used to be. I have done all the usuals (AdAware, SpyBot, online virus scans, etc.) and it is definitely better than it was. I have also defragged it with Diskeeper. Hopefully you can see anything I have missed and help me get it back like it was. Otherwise I will just assume that I either need to reformat/reinstall XP, or that it has slowed down due to a hardware issue.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm things don't look that bad here :tazz:

I do see a couple of things that should be taken care of though.

Fire up hijack this, press scan only and place a check next to this.

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

Close all browsers and click fix on hijack this.

Reboot and send me a new log please. ;)

On another note, it sems you are running without a anti virus in place, let's get you a good free one.

AVG Free Edition

Download it, set it up how you like, and make sure it runs full time.

Also download this tool and run it.

http://www.stevengou...ftware/cleanup/

Try that and let see what happens. :)

Hello again,

I did the CleanUp program as stated. I timed my PC. It takes 1min 26 secs to get from the first appearance of the desktop until the HD has stopped churning and the hourglass disappears for the last time.

Hi Gary ;)

I see nothing else in this machine in the way of malware of any sort.

As far as the hijack log is concerned you are clean congrats :tazz:

I still see that you have no av in place, that's reckless in this day and age, but up to you.

Perhaps a good defrag and disk cleanup would be a good idea at this time :)

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free :(

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:

Spyware Blaster Spyware Guard

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE--Adaware Tutorial

Spybot S&D--Spybot Tutorial

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

AVG Avast

Firewalls are also a must in any good prevention :

Zone Alarm Sygate Kerio

There are different browsers available on the net, other than Internet Explorer, we believe!! these are better for security purposes :

Firefox Opera

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :

Rav Online Scan Housecall Online Scan Panda Activescan

Housecall Java Online Scan<---For those who use Firefox

And finally a little Posted Image How did I get infected in the first place ? (by Mr. Tony Klein and dvk01)

Good luck and safe surfing :(
