I have a Dell PC, with Windows XP. The computer is constantly online due to some networked remote-access system my assistant set up.

My office computer has gone haywire. Despite Norton, firewalls, etc., it suddenly started behaving very weirdly. My assistant said it had started acting oddly when he was using it and I was out of the office, so he downloaded eTrust Pest Patrol, which I've never heard of.

So I come in, and my computer is screwed up...it's defaulted to the original desktop, etc., although all of my added programs are there. I downloaded Ad-Aware and Microsoft Anti-Spy, and ran both. It found about 400 problems. Cleared those...but now every time I run the two, even if it's only seconds after running them and rebooting, it finds about 30 problems.

The constant offenders:
ShopAtHome
Navidad Worm Worm
Trojan.Downloader.KavSoc

Plus a few random others each time.

The worst of it is, the computer keeps defaulting to original settings. For example:
No matter how much I change the Internet settings on IE 6.0, it goes right back to the original default home page, history settings, cookie settings, etc. I've tried downloading or updating IE, but it says that a previous download is just waiting for a reboot to complete. Of course, rebooting does nothing. I do still have my Favorites.

I get cookie alerts over and over again. Clicking "apply to all" does nothing...they just keep coming.

Every time I open a MS Office application, it starts configuring the software as though it was a first use. It asks me for my name, etc. The Office Assistant pops up. The file locations return to default. But my customized toolbar is still there.

Oh, and with all the scans I've been running, not one is doing anything about the Aurora popups I keep getting.

And every bit of software I run eventually locks up and freezes. Within about 10 minutes.

So the computer is essentially useless. I'm working on my boss's computer but that's not an option.

Can this be fixed by me? Or do I need to bring in an expert? I do have all of the disks for the original software on my computer...I'm considering just wiping the whole computer and starting from scratch.

Jennifer

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
