hello,
i have WinXP SP2
task manager crashes when i hit CTRL-ALT-DEL, sometimes it gives an error like "The memory could not be "written"" and sometimes it gives the Data Execution Prevention error. i know i could disable DEP, but that only seems like a band-aid, not fixing the real problem.

here's what i have done:
1.run several different types of spyware and virus checks, system had the bloodhoundw32.ep, but now it is clean
2.cleaned out all temporary files
3.run sfc /scannow to restore windows files
4.restored a acronis image of my C drive from before this ever happened.

none of these things worked. also i had a BSOD related to Intervideo WinDVD conflicting with Creative Soundblaster drivers, but i don't know if that's related. i uninstalled everything related to those problems.

is it safe to disable DEP? i know DEP is a pain, but it must exist for a reason.
