Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz: I'm kool808 and I will be helping you today.

We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool [ HiJackThis ], read the short tutorial [ HERE ]

Then post the results of the scan here.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! I will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

In the event you cannot download it then you have to use another computer then transfer it to your PC.  If you are not able to run it through desktop or C:\HJT then you have to use the Task Manager, available through CTRL+ALT+DELETE then choose New Task.

It is highly recommended that you install your HijackThis Tool in a safe location where you can easily find them. It is suggested you place them in a folder C:\HJT\, that way it could create backups necessary for future restore.

Please disable sypware guard temporarily since this will hinder in our fixes:
Double-Click the reg SG icon in the system tray
Under options, uncheck ALL 3 boxes
Save settings then close Spyware Guard.

We will re-enable it later after your system is clean.

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.

++++++++ STEP 1 ++++++++
RIGHT-CLICK [ HERE ] and Save As (In IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

First:
Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Download CCleaner and install it, but do not run it yet.

Please download this file: Revised Installer for the Nailfix Utility
Save it to your desktop.
DO NOT run it yet.

++++++++ STEP 2 ++++++++
To reboot into SafeMode with Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft:

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

++++++++ STEP 3 ++++++++
  • Uninstallation
We need to uninstall the following programs:
  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  • Please locate if they exist
    • Elite Tool bar
  • Click Uninstall
  • Confirm with OK
++++++++ STEP 4 ++++++++
Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now as the action.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

++++++++ STEP 5 ++++++++
Now run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.client...fo/bt_side.html
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lanbrup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanbrup.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service62] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka62.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [q7sP3FU] iepsic.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [bw3FRPY4T] icacli32.exe

O16 - DPF: {972BB342-14A7-4660-83C1-51DDBEE171DB} - http://www.pacimedia...ll/pcs_0009.exe
O16 - DPF: {D7BF3304-138B-4DD5-86EE-491BB6A2286C} - http://morwillsearch.com/mwsearch.cab

Close all open windows except for HJT, then click the Fix Checked button. Close HJT.

++++++++ STEP 6 ++++++++
Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • c:\windows\system32\iepsic.exe
  • c:\windows\system32\icacli32.exe
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanbrup.exe
  • C:\WINDOWS\etb\ <-- whole folder
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

++++++++ STEP 7 ++++++++
Now run CCleaner.
  • Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
  • If running Firefox: click on the "Applications" tab and uncheck "Cookies" under "Firefox".
  • Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
Finally, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the report log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply

Please tell me how your system is running now.

Very good job, you did pretty well! :tazz:

I can still see that you did not place your hijackthis program to a safe folder. It is still inside your temporary folder. You need to transfer it to a folder you can easily remember (C:\HijackThis\) so it can create back-ups in case we need to restore something.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in HERE
  • Install the VX2 Cleaner
  • Start Ad-Aware SE
  • Go to "Plug-ins"
  • Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Plugin"
  • If your computer isn't infected, click "Close".
If your computer is infected
  • Select "Clean system"
  • Reboot your computer
  • Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
  • Remove any VX2 objects detected
  • Reboot your computer again
  • Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer
Download dsrfix.zip
Save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
  • This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
  • Do Not open that folder yet.
Download and install Cleanup.

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select YES (We need to reboot in safe mode)
  • Close CleanUp
Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe again.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal. Now open ewido and do a scan of your system again, this time clean everything it finds.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HJT, then click the Fix Checked button. Close HJT.

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.
  • Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
  • A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.
Now run the CleanUp program again:

Finally, restart your computer back into Normal Mode and please post a new HJT log, as well as the ewido report log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply

Can you reboot back to NORMAL MODE. Then do another scan from Hijackthis, I presumed that you had taken from Safe Mode there are a few processes?

Another thing you haven't move your Hijackthis to a safe folder yet.
C:\DOCUME~1\CHARLE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX01.750\HijackThis.exe

Can you put it here:
C:\HJT\HijackThis

you need to extract the hijackthis from the ZIP file then transfer it to a new folder. My Documents will just be fine as long as it would be easy for you to remember.

did you personally install GreasyPalmUpdate?

if not then reboot in safe mode then uninstall through add/remove programs:

GreasyPalmUpdate

then delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\GreasyPalmUpdate.exe

open hijackthis then put a check mark on these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GreasyPalmUpdate] C:\WINDOWS\GreasyPalmUpdate.exe

O16 - DPF: {4D561B31-49A0-4E2C-8AFF-353468EC669B} (GreasyPalmInstallHelper Class) - http://www.greasypal.../GreasyPalm.cab

then click FIX.

reboot back in normal mode then post a new Hijackthis log.
