Ok. I think I zipper the file. I just right clicked on it and chose 'send to compressed (zipped) folder'. I just wanted to make sure that was the right way to do it before I delete it. Also, where does it go once it is zipped? I couldn't find it.

When I did the L2MFix (i tried #1) I get this message 'Could not find c:\\DOCUME~1\Jennifer\Desktop\l2mfix\User1.txt'

It should be ok now.

For the zip file, yes you did that correctly. The zip file should, by default, be saved in the same folder the files you zipped were. In this case, the system32 folder. Look at the end to see if it's there. It should have the same name, but only in a .zip file and the icon will be different than the .exe file.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop anem
sc delete anem
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for mserv.exe (anem) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc Tools->Delete an NT service and type in anem and hit OK.

Check and fix this in HijackThis:

O23 - Service: mserv.exe (anem) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\mserv.exe (file missing)

Restart and post a new HijackThis log.

I got as far as this...

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for mserv.exe (anem) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.


and could not locate the mserv.exe (anem) so I didn't go any furthur...

When I double clicked on the notpad "delet.bat" it just disappeared. I am assuming that was supposed to happen?

If you didn't find it, proceed with the HijackThis steps (there's two different steps there, try out both). We need to remove that O23 entry.

Did this'Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc Tools->Delete an NT service and type in anem and hit OK.' and got "Was not found in the registry".

I did the second step and did not see this in the list.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Just a few more questions...
Can I delete the Pepper Fix, L2Mfix, or Ewido?
Should I continue to use McAfee (in addition to all that was listed in the tutorial)?

Yes, you may delete all those. For Ewido, you have to uninstall that via the Add/Remove panel. Others you may simply hit the delete button. If you want, you may keep Ewido since it won't cause conflicts with McAfee according to their compatibility list.

You may use McAfee if you wish, but if you want, you may uninstall it and use the antivirus I like most - Grisoft AVG. It's free for personal use. I used this program for years now and love it. Same thing with this firewall. Get ZoneAlarm - also free for personal use (look for the Free Download link - they hide it ;)).

All those programs in the tutorial should provide you with a lot of protection so this won't happen so easily again. Just make sure to update them and run them once in a while :)
