I have followed the instructions under the before posting link. I can not seem to get rid of winfixer and continue to get pop ups. Please help!

For Kazaa - - if this is not the paid version, it has spyware. So if it's not the paid one, do this:
Download KazaaBegone http://www.greyknigh...KazaaBegone.zip. This uninstaller will remove all elements from all Kazaa versions, as well as all of the bundled software that comes with it. Warning: This version has a bug that can cause your Internet connection to be broken when removing New.Net, WebHancer or CommonName. Before using KazaaBegone, download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip just in case you need it (if it breaks your internet connection, run it).

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Run the smitRem.exe tool you downloaded earlier. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Uninstall these via Add/Remove panel if listed:

Delete these if found:

Do a search for w?nlogon.exe and right click on any of the files found. Go to Properties->Version tab and see if it's from Microsoft. Do this for each file found. If it's not from Microsoft (or doesn't even have a version tab) and it was created recently, then delete it.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

rmdir /s "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.4\"
rmdir /s "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.5\"
exit

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it. You may delete the file afterwards.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido log.

ok here is what you asked for. I am also having a problem with shutdown and restarting. Hope you can help with that problem to. I still see a shortcut to winfixer on my desktop.

Just delete that winfixer file on your desktop.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Do a search for w?nlogon.exe and right click on any of the files found. Go to Properties->Version tab and see if it's from Microsoft. Do this for each file found. If it's not from Microsoft (or doesn't even have a version tab) and it was created recently, then delete it.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Ok, here is the new hijack log. I could not find the file clientax.inf. I did a search in files and folders and it did not come up. I did find the file thun.dll and deleted it. I looked up w?nlogon.exe and is does have a copyright from microsoft so i did not delete it.
When i shutdown or restart the computer it does not turn off or restart. The screen will go black but the fan is still running. I have to hold the on button in to shutdown completly then unplug the power for a few seconds then replug and boot up. Any ideas why this happens?

Just want to confirm this, did you search for w?nlogon.exe and not just go in manually to look for it? If so, then that's ok.

See if this repairs the internet problem:
Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip and unzip it. Then double-click on WinsockFix.exe to run it.

Post a new Panda log so I can have a final look.

i searched by going to start>Search>for files&folders> and typed in w?nlogon.exe it found two files and both of them said copyright microsoft corp in the version.

I ran the winsockfix but it did not seem to work. My whole computer is running slow. How do I fix this? Please help!

Here is my new Panda scan. In your post (Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked.)
The scan did not give me the option to check an autoclean box or delete the adware that was found. Not sure how to remove these programs.

I also noticed a program called limeshop in my ad/remove programs window. However when i click to remove the program nothing happens?

OK, for those two w?nlogon.exe files (both are winlogon.exe?), see which one is created more recently (like during the time you had the winfixer popups. That should be the bad one. It should also be located in the system32 folder. See if it has a strange icon (maybe like 3 boxes with the letters MFC?).

Uninstall Limeshop again if you can. Go to c:\program files\limeshop\ and delete that folder. Do a search for limeshop and delete any files/folders found.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

del /f "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ClientAX.inf"
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Restart and post a new Panda and HijackThis log.

I don't think i am doing a search correctly. The only way i know how to search for a file is through start>Search>for files&folders> When i do that it pulls up two files that are winlogon One of them is found in a system 32 folder, however when i highlighted it and clicked delete it says cannot delete access denied.
any ideas?

Don't delete it yet. I want you to confirm that it's a bad file before you do so. Yes, you are doing it correctly for the searching part. But where is the other winlogon file located? You said one of them is found in the system32 folder. Where's the other one?

You may continue following the instructions I gave you also. So do the remaining fixes also and post the logs. Then tell me the status on the two winlogons (where the other one is located?).
