After getting the trojan.desktop.hijcker.c virus my user found that the ntoskrnl.exe was morphing - he copied file from another xp user and pasted it into his os.

Now his pc will not boot.

though I have made a dos boot disk, I cannot get laptop to boot to the cd/dvd drive.

what next?

Thanks for any tips,

Jill

U might still have malware, so please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

I think we are beyond all this. We cannot boot, period. No safe mode, no nothing.

Let me clarify. upon booting, we have selected all available choices i.e. safe mode, safe mode w/dos, last known good etc. The safe modes return a PROCESS1_INITIALIZAITON_FAILED w/a STOP: 0xc000006B. The last known good hangs up permanently in the Loading XP window.

Thanks

Did you find a fix for this apart from re-installing?

Maybe you have something failing in there.

Are you able to see the BIOS?

If reformatting is ok with you or your friends laptop, please let me know.

Seems this error is typical when upgrading hardware and falling under Microsoft's new "protection"

Reinstall is required :whistling:
