Hello!

I've used this forum before for a huge spyware invasion I had before and you guys cleared it up great. Well I'm back because they've invaded my computer again. Unsuspectingly I went on www.videocodes4u.com and I had at least 5 spyware programs installed on my computer somehow. (I NEVER even clicked on ANY question boxes that popped up...) Well, the pop ups started immediatly and now I have a stupid browser search bar in my IE. Like last time, I did all the recommended steps before posting, and a few of the steps did clear up a few of the spywares, but I still have a few on here. (I'm still getting occasional pop ups and that stupid search bar in my IE.) Here is my HJT log:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

    Run Ewido:[list]
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Give me the ewido log and a new hijack this log.

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I ran ewido and it removed a lot of stuff. The bad news is that it froze near the end and I wasn't able to get a log. It froze on the file casstub.exe, if that helps. But! Here is my HJT log. I hope not logging ewido isn't TOO much of a problem.

Try to run ewido again. If it doesn't work, try it in safe mode (tap f8) when it reboots. Give me a new log of hijack this and ewido, if possible.

Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up.

Please run Ewido again. give me a new hijack this log and a new ewido log. :tazz:

Everything seems to be going very well! I guess we can deem it resolved for now? I'll post again if things begin to go downhill.

Thank you SO MUCH for your help! You guys (and girls!) here are the best!

Glad all is well.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  • Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
