Hi, i need help to get rid of this error message that pops up everytime i load windows....its says... cannot find nail.exe...and sum other stuff.
Please help me get rid of it.

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which may not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans that need to be eradicated. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep after a more pressing problem is dealt with; NewDotNet. This can be tricky.

First, download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this programme. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

To get rid of NewDotNet, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and remove the following:

New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains in fact (anything that says New.Net)

If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: NewDotNet.
At the very bottom of that page, it will say:

For NewDotNet removal instructions, please click here

That's where you need to click to get to removal procedure 4 (ONLY if you can't find the New.Net in Add/Remove programs).

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet.. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the programme. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

Whilst you are doing that, I will work on the rest of the fix. I would like to see confirmation that you have internet access afterwards, so please reply.

Hello again

Firstly could you please disable WinPatrol from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

Killbox by Option^Explicit
CWShredder
CCleaner
Revised Nailfix Utility
cwsserviceemove.reg file

Now please install CWShredder, and run it. Click Check For Update, then Fix and then OK followed by Next, let it fix everything it asks about

Install Ewido Security Suite.

• Install Ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
  • You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.

Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please install Revised Nailfix Utility , unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.

• The programme will now open to the main screen.
• When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

Now that the updates have been installed do the following:

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop and include it in your reply.

Now close Ewido security suite.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Unzip cwsserviceemove.reg file to your desktop. While in safe mode, double click on it and grant it permission to add the registry items.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (if present):(click Start>Settings>Control Panel)

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

Being unable to fix those entries is normally caused by a programme protecting your registry settings. In your case it looks to be WinPatrol. Please disable WinPatrol for the fix and log production.

Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark against the following:

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Ok i disabled spyguard and win patrol and also trojan guard...but its still not dissapearing, i dont really kno what else there is dat could be preventing it.

Can you try again with Ewido disabled too. It just might be that one that is causing it.

Just thought I'd add this bit courtesy of Tampabelle.

Turn off Spyware Guard. Open Spyware Guard. Click on Options. Uncheck all the three boxes and then click on Save Settings. Now click on File and Exit.

Apparently, if you don't do it that way, it doesn't shut down correctly.

Anyway give a try after following that instruction, let me know what happens.
